Glad to see the pre-order has already made it on the top seller list. I wish you developers all the success in the world. After the immense amount of work we have watched you pour into this game, you absolutely deserve it!
I can't say I've been following you since 2003. And I can't say I've been your biggest fan. And I can't even say I've read this forum before.
But what I can say is you guys have turned upside down my world on a regular basis every time I play your games. And the one time I have had to contact you (it wasn't even about NS2, more about the state of indie development) I received a 2000 word essay in return that helped me kickstart my own pet project which has been going on since last Christmas.
I'll have you know that I won't be giving away my free copy to a friend. I'll be making it a little reward for a competition on a gaming league I run with some friends. I will attempt to build as much hype for this game, and as much a rabid fanbase out of acquaintances, as you have with every single update along the way. I've followed your streamed competitive games, and I'll do my best to bring a larger competitive community in to experience what I've known to be a brilliant game for years now.

Yes, if you pre-ordered before Steam release but haven't played the game yet, you still get the free copy. Because we will distribute the free Standard editions via the Steam gift mechanism, you will need to have at least redeemed your purchased key on Steam so that it is tied to an account.
Feels great to see you guys up in the lights, on the stage, and being awesome. Your little game is all growns up and growns up and being a big-boy!
I was so blown away by seeing the dynamic infestation prototype, thinking, "a modern NS! This will be awesome." Kinda scared and dismayed by the New Engine announcement, but really left feeling, "this is okay. They will be done when it's ready." Slightly discouraged that I was completely unable to run the beta. Didn't know what that meant. Had to put it out of my head.
But a couple years and a new video card inspired me to try again and I've been having a great time watching things change so much, all these baby steps mixed with massive leaps towards the finish line. The polishes are fantastic to see coming in, and I can't remember being amazed like I was flying around the new Summit. A very remodel-your-house-reality-show feeling of going where you've been and hardly recognizing it, and being blown away. How did we even manage before?
Anyway, thanks again you guys. 4920 FTW
Finally, lets all watch that dynamic infestation video again, uploaded 6 years ago, this time with nostalgia rather than longing for the future, which has arrived: (youtube) http://bit.ly/ORKUom
Damn... waited so long for this day, it feels kinda surreal o_O But really good timing i'd say! The hype from Rezzed/TBC/Kotaku/GamesCom is still going strong, throwing 45.000 extra copies into the wild will only increase it further.
Great job UWE!
And i know it's an odd place for something like this, but can't the deluxe armor get a somewhat different coloring? At first glance it doesn't look any different from the run of the mill greenie. Having them stand out more (color-wise) would give the Marine team an even better look with 3 different skins that are obviously different at first sight. Maybe make them dark blue or something like that? Detail wise the model sure looks different, but tbh i think having them stand out by more then just details would give the Marine side some really great visual diversity.
Free copies to everyone who already pre-ordered it? That's unheard of in the gaming world, especially for an indie developer, a crazy marketing strategy, and quite possibly the most brilliant thing I've ever seen. That or just really freaking crazy.
I can honestly not wait for the actual launch, after seeing all the game has gone through to get to where it's at, I can't even describe what it's like to finally see it launching. I can't possibly imagine what the dev team feels right now.
And to everyone that's ever worked on the game, everyone that's pre-ordered, everyone that has ever even played NS1. Thank you. Starting to sound like I'm the one releasing the game now so I'll stop here.
Actually no, a few more things: lork on teh clorft, yo comm shotgun pls, it hovars without flapping, and "or bob!". I'm positive I missed a bunch of others.
I've been a long time NS fan and even though I haven't played the beta for more than just a couple of hours (old computer) I pre-ordered it as soon as I saw that it was possible.
This really is a brilliant idea.. I've already got someone in mind for my giftable version. An old friend who used to spend countless hours with me in NS1 but hasn't gotten around to purchasing NS2 yet (despite my nagging him about it!)
I really hope this game becomes a huge financial success for you guys, you deserve it!
Congratulations UWE! I could tell you were excited for this to happen at PAX and I'm excited for you to be reaching your goals. As I told you at PAX, I appreciate all your hard work and look forward to 1.0 and beyond.
I kept getting mistaken for being one of your staff at the booth because I was answering questions and helping out new players so if you ever need extra booth help, let me know. I would be very excited to help out.
Like Crispix, I have been following you guys since the beginning all those years ago, reading forums, concept art, changelogs of every build, watching Hugh's videos etc. I'm very happy to see how far you have come! I have only registered now officially on the forums (since it is such a big milestone). The only reason I haven't bought the alpha, beta or pre-order (yet) is that I live in South Africa and I'm not sure I will be able to play on a US or EU server. If there was a local server here, I would not hesitate for one second to buy a copy...
I'm sure there are lots of people like me in different countries around the world. Anyone have any tips for people like me who don't have a large community of players/servers nearby? Or what has your experience been playing on a foreign server?
Anyway, congratulations UWE and everyone involved!
I loved the first game (so much <3) and have followed the development of NS2 since the beginning. At first I had my doubts but you somehow managed to turn this into a real awesome game. Congratulations!
Btw: Will I lose my Black Armor if I upgrade to Deluxe Edition?
Speaking on behalf of the Brazilian community NS1 and now NS2: We're all very pleased with the result and the way that the NS2 is taking, and we were even more pleased with the big surprise for those who purchased the game long ago (days, months or years). NS/NS2 isn't just a game for us, is a family and friends who have we never seen in real life, talking, exchanging ideas and feelings (positive and negative, like funny fights), or even for some of us that NS1 was a reason to meet players in real life and, of course, playing and enjoying to play.
Thanks for the NS2 gifts (I'm crazy to see the ArtBook) and what NS1 generated and now are generating with NS2. I just got out of a matches on a server here in Brazil, where had 19 players, with old friends and new players just continuing and reinforcing what the NS1 created.
Congratulations UWE. Playing and following the progress of NS2 has been one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences for me. You guys are already number 5 and 6 on the top sellers list on Steam. I hope you guys hit #1, you deserve it.
Congratulations for reaching this milestone! It's been one hell of a journey and I sincerely hope it will pay off. You deserve success!
I preordered this game a long time ago, back when the black armor was available. Because I'm a student and I didn't have a gaming PC back then and wasn't sure if I'd have one in the future, I decided to get the cheaper version without the black armor. I thought that even if I never got to actually play the game, at least the twenty-something dollars would be a nice thank you for NS1. Now that I have played the game for hundreds of hours and on top of that, get all these freebies, I feel bad for being so cheap back then.
I really hope all the free copies won't hurt your sales too much!
