Are reflections needed? There are very few surfaces that would reflect anything. I don't think it would add much except to add more calculations and decrease performance.
Arguably Reflections are shiny polish. Nice feature, not terribly important for gameplay usually. And can be quite computationally intensive to get right (at least from what I remember in my visualization classes).
So, I suspect it would be a post v1.0 feature if they wanted to add it. But likely a very low priority.

They can make a pretty big difference, especially with some of the newer versions Max has been experimenting with. However, as there are still some issues left to make them work properly, reflections have sadly been bumped to post 1.0 as there are many more important tasks to be done.

That is ridiculous. Do you have that in your favorites?
Yes they are needed. They can make a pretty big difference, especially with some of the newer versions Max has been experimenting with. However, as there are still some issues left to make them work properly, reflections have sadly been bumped to post 1.0 as there are many more important tasks to be done.
