I do not care how many times this has been posted before, or how many people defend them. In fact i do not even care if they have removed the "instant beta" thing. Alot of people have been watching this site for a long time, and thus seen the thing before it was removed. And alot of people dont have much money to spend on games. The devs have done WAY to little to inform people that the beta is no longer a part of the preorder. I dont care their reason for stopping the instant beta. I care for the fact that simply removing something does not qualify as telling it does not count anymore!. There was no blog post saying "No more beta for preorders" or any message on steam saying "note this does not grant access". In fact there are STILL threads by the devs saying "Guides to NEW players". This is UNACCEPTABLE. They have done little to no effort to state that the beta is no longer part of the preorder

Beta is for the people who had faith in the game and dropped good money to support the game, even at the higher pricepoints.
I wouldn't mind if more people had access to beta but your getting mad at them for updating their website? What do you want them to say on the steam page? Doesn't include beta? You usually put the product you are selling not what you aren't.

As for news posts, in the Steam announcement there is again, no mention of Beta access. In fact, it mentions that one of the perks given to people who pre-ordered in the two years before Steam is continued private beta access.

We are sorry that you feel bitter about your NS2 pre-order, which we very much appreciate. But it does appear that you are being unfairly aggressive towards us.
If you can't save up for a game for over a year...that just doesn't sound right.
The devs are doing everything absolutely perfect I must say.
Keep up the good work guys!!
Just be patient and everyone will get to play ns2 at launch. If these kinds of things bother you, you'd probably would want to wait for the full release anyways to play a more polished ns2. But with a blog post, numerous forum posts and and the steam order never claiming to give beta access, you can't say that the devs are maliciously deceiving anyone.
So basically you wanted them to put "NO BETA ACCESS" on the Steam page? Because short of doing that, they've done everything they could to indicate that buying it won't get you beta access.
naturalselection2.com for quite a few years, although recently the beta was closed.
consider reading the opening post and knowing whats the post is about, This is only game where ive heared them closing BETA because time passed for entries, its called BETA so it can be tested and stressed, every other game ive gotten into that ran a BETA allowed access with pre-order. dont see why this would be the case now.
Consider this a learning experience for both sides, UWE to make sure people understand what they're buying and for you (the customers) to actually make sure you know what you're buying. There's some responsibility on your side as well.
All in all, the good news is that the game will be released soon, so you'll all be able to join in on the fun before you know it.
Most of us paid $40 for the game when it first was available for about a year, then the price was made $35 and stuck like that for another 2 years, but now that the game is $25 for 2 weeks without beta access makes UWE a disappointment?

I can understand the confusion if you haven't been following the game's development but a long time ago we paid a higher price for a game that in 2009, didn't really exist, it was an ambitious project that we were investing in to see fruition. Understandably, building such a large game on a brand new in-house engine essentially programmed by one man for a majority of the time meant that performance was a major work in progress and that turned a lot of people off. UWE made in my opinion the smart move, which was not having the people on Steam enter the Beta right away because apart from our relatively small community, many people may not have accepted the performance requirements that the game was in, especially in the pre-build 190 days.
Like when Total Biscuit did his NS2 review, whenever ns2 sees a major rise in exposure, we get the constant forum threads and other hassles with people not getting the FPS they expected or experiencing server lag, both of which have been dramatically improved over the years. Steam has brought in more players than ever before, but it is an influx of players that, if they aren't delivered the game with performance they expected regardless of the Beta title and the disclaimers that we have posted, would be easily dismayed and may not touch the game again; it has happened before. So logically, we would want the game to give as best of a first impression as possible for the people who have only recently heard about the game and do not know the history of the development cycle, so that they would more likely stick around and recommend it for their friends, than if they had a negative image of the game due to the in-progress nature of the Beta.
This is my speculation, but i can assure you that while it may not seem like it at face-value, this was not some arbitrary decision.
At this point, I think we all feel like the beta has gone on for plenty of time. Closing it to help build anticipation felt like the right thing to do (and seems to be working out); unfortunately that means a few people like yourself missed out, and we are sorry about that. But remember, you still have a discounted copy of the Deluxe Edition of NS2 that you will be able to play as soon as release hits.
Thanks for pre-ordering NS2, we really, really appreciate it.
The improvement of the performance is one of the biggest if not the biggest tasks currently that UWE is working on. Comparing the Spark engine with big game engines like unreal, frostbyte or cryengine is a bit unfair since they have way more people that work on improving the engine. But the guys are at UWE are working on improving it all the time and most likely won't stop that when 1.0 is released. They want to make the run as good as possible for everyone.
Steam pre order came out, I didnt care much, I preorder 2 days ago and no a single F was given to the beta, even if it is in a RC state, why? because ironing is still needed. My money went to devs at the right time imo. Steam is flooding them with cash which means higher resources to crank out those last fixes and release the game in due time.
Less complaining, more appreciating. I had years of fun with NS, waiting 1 more month to play NS2 is not an issue, and by the looks of it, waiting is even worth it.
So how is it that you can not save $1 a week for less than 1 year to buy the game when it needed you the most make you feel entitled to the same as us who loved this game and put money in to help it become what it is today? In no way are you being scammed, and you are the reason why a hot cup of coffee has to have a label saying it is hot..... Thank you for getting into the game now, it always need more players! The wait is almost over now guy, really, just wait a bit and this is "fair".
edit : People are freakin fickle. If you do not give beta access when it is pre-purchased (by far not the first game to do this, not the last) they get flamed but after a month or so of waiting they get the game plus more. If they give the beta access, a huge influx of people join, then instantly flame the game because of "x" issue which then spam the net saying this game sucks and keep others from joining the game, without waiting for the complete game to be released. This is a no win situation for the company however they made the best decision possible for their situation. When you buy something, do not just assume you get things, this is a bad way to buy anything and makes me worry about your future. Read what you get..... "wait wtf" says the buyer, "it does not say I get beta" *flag is raised*, if you have to google search, "oh yup beta is closed" now do your informed purchase or not. I now have the choice to still buy in and get lots for just 25$ or wait one month and see what the finished product is. Think outside your whiny shoes, think of the marketing team, would you keep them hired if their headline was NS2 pre-purchase you do not get this, this, this, this and this...... How is this logical? Seriously? "oh because now I know what I do not get" people amaze me.... When you read NS2 you get this, this, this and this all for only 25$ for a limited time. IF it is not there, why the heck assume it is? WHY? because you read before on their website you got it? You should think of what you can do better instead of blaming someone else, this will help you grow if you apply this to everything. /end rant
You still get the game and then some for just 25$ the game is out in oct, maybe nov, hang in there big guy/girl patiencs is a virtue.
