Hi there. I'm afraid you're below minimum specs. It might run, but not great. This may improve with time, but your specs are not good for most new 3D game releases now.

Minimum:

OS:Windows 7 32/64-bit / Vista 32/64 / XP
Processor:Core 2 Duo 2.6 ghz
Memory:2 GB RAM
Graphics:DirectX 9 compatible video card with 1GB, ATI X800, NVidia 8600 or better
DirectX®:9.0
Hard Drive:5 GB HD space

Is it the video card holding me back? The processor thing has me a bit confused. Since I have 1.66GHz (2 CPUs) does that mean 1.66+1.66=3.32ghz? I'm pretty sure I run games that require more than 1.66ghz.

No.

Actually yes and no.
Yes, your video card is holding you back, but it is also your CPU. Both are WAY below minimum specs. 2GB RAM is also stretching it. No, you cannot just add CPU frequencies of multiple cores together.

How well will NS2 run?

Intel Core 2 Duo - 3.0GHZ
6GB DDR2 RAM
HD Radeon 6850 - 1GB
Windows 7 64 Bit

thanks for your time!

Yes.

I was running NS2 on a:
Core 2 duo 3.0ghz
8GB
Nvidia GTX9800+ (very old card)

@ 720p @ ~30fps

Given the improvements NS2 has had as it moves towards 1.0
I can't see any reason why you couldn't run NS2 adequately.

Vary simelar to my system, but i only have 3GB ram and run winXP
Heavy battles are a big nono atm, but i see improvements in every build.
Its totaly playable if you like me play a more objective based playstyle, killing structures, ambushing single marines and avoid the big team battles.

Wanted to ask the same thing, so I won't start new thread.
I'm really looking forward to the game, thinking about pre-ordering, but afraid whether it will run properly, here are my specs:

OS: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3
CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo E4500 2.20GHz
Videocard: nVidia GeForce GTS 450 1GB
RAM: 2 GB
HDD space is enough

If my old E6420 overclocked to 3.4Ghz was already struggling with it hovering between 20-30FPS, I'd say a E4500 @ 2.2Ghz will have much more trouble. Currently I'd expect around 15FPS in combat for that CPU, where my E6420 had 15-18 @ 2.13Ghz. That is at stock speed (2.13Ghz) and no more than 6 people in a room, going over that magic number and the FPS would tank to 8-11FPS.

It's also below minimum specs, which is C2D 2.6Ghz.

So all in all, it can run and might run it better at launch in October. But it would be a gamble. The CPU in your rig is the main deciding factor for this as the 2Gb RAM and 1Gb video card are plenty for low. But do expect a bit of hitching until everything is loaded into memory (seeing it for the first time). Which meant that a second round will be smoother.

Or you could do what I sometimes did, run a local host and "give" or "spawn" cheat all units and stuff into game before joining a server :P

Thanks, guys! I know that my CPU is weak nowadays... Hoping to buy a new rig in a year.:)
What a nice community btw.

Taken from mah YouTube channel page for easy copypasting :P

Retired rig, Ancient Relic:

Intel C2D E6420 @ 3.4Ghz, 1700FSB

Asus P5B Motherboard

OCZ Reaper 2Gb DDR2-800@ 425Mhz

Sapphire HD4850 512Mb GDDR3 (also tried it with a Asus HD5870 1024Mb GDDR5, much less hitching and a bit more FPS as well)

Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

I still think that is the absolute minimum config for the current beta, but there are a few builds left and performance has been increasing with each for that rig. Can't be entirely sure about the FPS now as I've not run it for over 2 builds (Build217 and it was playable on the overclock@ 20-30FPS in combat with low end at 18FPS and high end ad 45FPS, current build is 220)

Every computer like the one you have should work (I don't remember if 7770 is slower than 4870). In worst case you'll have to overclock until CPU bottlenecks are eliminated.

This compare site is quite interesting, just pure hardware compare and sometimes they benchmark FPS

Fixed that for you.
Theoretical values like these do not directly relate to actual game performance. It only works within one architechture/series if at all. I have seen 3 different cards having very different values for memory bandwidth, pixel fillrate, etc. but they actually perform exactly the same in games.

As a lot of people with high end desktops are struggling getting high frame rates, a low end ancient laptop like that wouldn't be playable.
