Hypernia servers in australia are $23 per/month for 16 players. They can handle 30 tickets all the way up to super end game where they hover between 20-25.

This topic is still my greatest fear for NS2's future.
As it stands NS2 is still shaping up to becoming an interesting, fluid, enjoyable experience. But it's not there yet.
NS is still a relatively small IP. Unlike other groups that can promise patches and fixes most people's exposure will be on day 1 release information. If the game loses steam then the community will shrivel up and be relegated to the shelves of niche small-time game. It has happened to so many other games and mods, and I'd really hate to see NS2 share the same fate. Even if patches make it even more amazing it is hard to get the same launch press and momentum going.
So, I trust the devs know what they're doing. But with only a month left in the ticker I'm still uneasy. So many performance and UI issues still, balance doesn't feel quite right, and overall I just don't feel as compelled to play round after round like I do in other games.
It's already very polished and balanced, and once they get the final round of optimizations in, it will be even slicker.
All the fancy stuff will come after 1.0. Which is great, cause now-a-days its good to keep evolving and the carrot dangling. Not to mention the MODs to come. Skulk hats and infinite jetpack exosuits with laser cannons, anyone?
It's going to be great, you just wait and see :)
Edit: let's also not forget NS1's long road of trials and tribulations :P
Lack of proper key bindings and commander hot keys, positional audio not functioning properly and animations not being in sync with hit boxes doesn't seem very polished to me. lol @ saying the game is balanced.

yea, i didnt mean to say they were 30 ticks stable consistently nor that server performance was anywhere near acceptable :). Just that it was possible to get halfway decent (or atleast 'playable') performance with 16p now with a non-overclocked cpu, as opposed to only 6-8p a few months ago.
The tick is going to tank when you get intense spikes in the occasional highly involved fight etc. with lots of traffic, but that's to be expected when your sitting player numbers at the very limit of what the server can handle in normal paced play.

it is so sad, i was thinking UWE is a company without a target Goal like many other companys with a publisher, so they don't have to cut out features just to hold the time release. but they have to, i hope the missing stuff will be at least later in. last month in a the twitch Q&A, charlie said, webs will be in, i don't see any webs yet, so im sure webs will not make it in release. :-( they will release NS2, even if its not ready.

No it doesn't... last night I was looking for another server and it still was hitching hard. We are also missing favorites, and server information.
On another note I hope they delay it until November to improve end-game performance FPS wise, and the menu.
*edit* Sorry I just failed, thought you were a player referring to the current build lol. Hopefully then the performance is better at launch for end-game as that will deter people as well.
I also thought they didn't have a timeline as the previous post states which is partly why I purchased the game way back. Apparently they do and probably are just running low on income unfortunately. But I would have loved to see some of those other features promised in the game by this point :(.
I don't think they want to release because they're low on money or something, I think it was just a concious decision,. The game's been in development for an awfully long time, I reckon if they wanted to implement even half of those features It'd probably end up taking them another 6 months to get it all ready. At some point you have to say 'let's roll this out', since the game is slowly getting in that polished state and balance is at least starting to get to a point where both sides are equally enjoyable and competitive.
1.0 Is not the end but really just another beginning. There'll always be features you want in a game that don't end up making it in on release, I think that's only a normal part of any game's development process. It's simply that with other games, you never know what those features are/were since their development is not nearly as transparent as NS2's.
