Limit Unit Types To Commander Centers/Hives

Quick thought, instead of tying research and upgrades to command centers and hives, how about untie them and instead have hives/commander centers limit the amount of a unit you can have on the battle field at a time.

Here is a quick example.

One Hive:
3 drifters.
unlimited skulks.
2 gorges.
2 lerks.
1 fade.
1 onos.

One Command Center:
2 macs.
unlimited shotguns.
1 grenade launcher.
1 flamethrower.
1 exo.
1 jumpack.
1 arc.

Two Hives:
6 drifters.
unlimited skulks.
3 gorges.
3 lerks.
2 fade.
2 onos.

Two Command Centers:
4 macs
unlimited shotguns
2 grenade launchers
2 exo
2 jumppacks
2 arcs.

I know this late in the development and so close to release, it won't happen. But, I do think it is worth discussing and considering for future updates because it is a possible way to mitigate current slipper slope issues with tying tech to hive and commander centers. It also keeps hives and commander center acquisition central to long term strategies for winning a match. It also opens up a myriad of strategic options to players and commanders. Of course numbers would need balanced and tech tree timings would need adjusted slightly.

I don't think this is a good idea. The number of each unit type or weapon should not be limited because it is part of teamwork to find the right amount of each. For example if the marines have too many exos or the aliens have too many gorges they will lose the game. By that teamwork and communication is important. Nothing should be changed here.

I haven't played yet, still eagerly awaiting the release on Steam, but from the gameplay videos I've seen on NS2HD and Galm's channels, this sounds like it would be a fundamental change as to how the game is played. If someone has the Resources and they want to buy something, there shouldn't be a little message telling them that there's already X amount of Y on the field so they can not purchase another Y and must wait their turn. It's counter productive, rely on teamwork, not forcing restrictions on people.

This removes the possibility of a Gorge rush so I automatically vote no.

    Also...

    One Hive:
    Unlimited Skulks

    One Command Center:
    Unlimited Shotguns

Does anyone else see the problem with that?

I dislike limiting unit types, this not only hurts alien/marine strategy but limits player choice of the classes they enjoy playing.

This too, right now, your choices are only limited by what's currently in the game. Limiting someone by preventing them from choosing a piece of equipment or a class their good at doesn't help the team.

No offense dude, but this is stupid beyond any recognition.
Especialy the 'unlimited shotguns' in comparison to 'unlimited skulks'.
Limitations kill strategy games, and guess what.
    strategy game.
    So no.

i think its a good idea but i dont think its practical. my reason is on small/large games the ratio is going to be different.. some servers have 24 players and having say 1 onos for 12 players to take out a base which may have up to 12 players in it, it doesnt work. this would make the most powerful unit in the game the cheapest life form.
