Do you use Rupture?

Recently, I've been playing alien commander a lot and have been trying to utilize all that we have at hand and I noticed that Cyst has a ability called Rupture. Since I've never seen anyone use it, I checked the wiki and below was what I found.

<i><b>Ruptures the Mature Cyst's membrane and splatters infestation onto nearby Marines to obstruct their vision temporarily. The Cyst converts into newborn and repeats maturity.</b></i>

I was not sure what this was about so I tested it out and only found marine vision being blocked for a split second like when you are bile bombed. Now, this ability requires us to use 1 resource which is identical to the marine health pack. Is there some hidden parameter to this like marine under infestation will take bonus damage or something? I just can't seem to figure out why we would actually want to use this for 1 resource.

What do you guys think?

    Like you said, it blinds enemy marines. It can be very effective when you have aliens waiting for an ambush, but It is rarely used because you have to sacrifice the cyst (breaking the cyst chain).

    I'd say in comp play you can not use it very often because the commander spends most of his time outside of the hive.

    It doesn't kill the cyst since a lot of builds. I think it isn't used because the vision obstruction is to short.

    I don't use it because I don't see that much added value to it honestly (it would need to be timed perfectly to be used in conjunction with an ambush), and I'm not keeping track of which cysts are mature or not, lol.

    I would've rather seen poisonous gas come out of these cysts, that way at least marine commanders could explode cysts near RTs to deny the area and win the alien team some time to respond. It would make for some interesting strategic cyst placement.

    yes, rupture is very good. It is a hard counter to marine aim so its effective ramps up with marine skill.

    Taking advantage of it however requires team co-ordination (something you don't exactly see in pubs). Whether comp players are using it in tournaments or not i wouldn't know. Its kinda hard to observe a rupture from spectate view.

    It's useless. Nobody uses it because its not worth the time. Sure, if they have 8 exos standing on top of each other on a cyst, it'll work a treat. In all other cases (99.9999999999% of cases) its utterly useless.

    It shouldn't even be buffed or anything like that. The game does NOT need a mechanic which encourages comms to spam cysts everywhere.

    hmm, I was expecting something more than 1 sec blind from this... Like spore coming out sounds great. Would be a good counter as the switch-axe seems kinda OP against resource towers.

    Anyway I do agree that with perfect timing and ambush it would be useful.
    It would also be nice if worked on Exso as well since it doesn't seem to have any effect on them.

    I am a big fan of the rupture. I have made many a marine get upset with me on pub games by coordinating with the nearby skulks when to attack.
    Just tell them you're about to blind him and they always get coordinated for a nice easy kill on a few particularly good aiming marines
