Post your funny late game scenarios here!
Clockwise Rush (Or counter-clockwise) -

How it Happens:
Your team is pushing the other and is on a roll taking down comm stations/chairs. It looks like the odds are tipped in one side's favor when the losing team rushes your base on the other side of the map. You either don't have an observatory or phase there, or your commander decides to put all their effort into the push, letting the enemy take the base. All forces are in the push, so you can't spare more than one or two people to defend. Seeing that they have taken over your installation, the opposing team chooses to continue marching on the rest of your turf.

Both sides have abandoned most defensive play.

What ensues is a race to destroy the CCs of the other team. Due to the nature of their CC placement on the maps, the teams usually move in a circular direction, destroying one base after another. Whoever reaches the end of the line of CCs first and kills it wins.

Alien Vs Marine Likelihood of Winning:
Let's set the alien imbalance (at the time of this writing B223) aside now because they actually have a higher chance of defeating the marines here. The most important thing here is speed. Not phases or anything like that. Sheer. Speed. Which is something aliens have a lot of. And if the two teams have the highest Tier units (Onos and Exo), the Onos is much faster than the Exo making it slightly more effective.

If you have the same amount of Comm chairs as the aliens, and you find yourself in this dilemma, be careful. Either run as fast as humanly possible or pull back and defend.

Post anything else you have seen late in a game below. Leave appropriate details too.

ns2_docking - The (double) deadly late beacon

The marines held Cafeteria, Terminal and Tram, and the aliens held the rest of the entire map.
The alien team was divided into two equally sized groups, one attacked Cafeteria from the west, while the other one was to put pressure at Terminal to keep them busy. BEFORE the Terminal group had gotten there, the Cafeteria power node died, and all marines successfully beaconed to Cafeteria to save it. But now they couldn't save Terminal, as we were quick on the power node. The Cafeteria team managed to kill all of the marines, who had no way to respawn now ;D. By all amazement, the marines had no IPs (maybe CC) at Tram. The end.

Exo's on defensive duty (boring but super effective) usually do the trick in stopping in alien lategame base rush. This frees the rest of the team up to attack. So I wouldn't entirely agree aliens have it easiest lategame, I do believe the chances are pretty even. Aside from skulks feelijng useless, the lategame balance is much much better and enjoyable than what it used to be. A lot depends on proper coordination and communication of split pushes and the like.

I've seen some funny strats late game as well, my favourite being:

    - Marine wrecking train
Marines all group up and push a hive where aliens don't expect it, kill it, die and/or beacon in time to defend and go for the next hive. Rinse repeat until aliens are desperately trying to rebuild all hives. (By which time you can usually end the game) This works even at 1 CC, as it only requires good timing, max upgrades shotguns. gls or just a lot of LMGs. At this point, for aliens, the game will feel like 'whack a mole'

    - Commander self-beacon. This isn't so much a strat as it is an amusing endgame manoeuvre.
I've managed to pull this off just once, but needless to say, it was pretty freaking amazing. Main base got overrun and all marines except comm got killed, with the power being down. Fortunately we had a forward base (in server room, main base was shipping) but no IPs there yet and no one to build. I beaconed in server room, to then jump out of the comm chair and be warped to server room before aliens had time to eat me. Built up the IPs, got the entire team up and running again and we even succeeded in taking back the game after a long hard struggle.

I have an addition to elodea's troll story. I have had this done to me, and tried it once or twice on the other team. One or two or three onos's uses stomp on every marine who spawns as they spawn, keeping the whole team down. Pretty soon you have 10 marines laying there and the whole alien team watching. Rinse repeat until marines f4.

The coolest late game stuff I can think of is a game where I was marines and both teams were going clockwise around summit trading bases. They would take datacore we would take flight. They would take sub, we would take atrium. Both teams were much better offensively and could not defend against a rush. Both teams did try to defend, it was just easier to rebuild. This went on for quite awhile until the marines did a double push on crossroads and I think flight. The marines won that game. It was late game because we all had late game tech.

In yesterdays Playtest, the marines ALL went EXO and I was in a vent... venting it up in that little vent outside subaccess/complab with my George. It was a magical place with tracer fire, clogs and hydra's. One of them EXO's died and now back on the battlefield as a marine he thought: "Alright time to get George out of the vent" That did not go according to his plans :P

In response to my earlier scenario-

Seen it most on Tram and Veil

Maybe a few times on Summit

Happens on Mineshaft a lot too

Now, this isn't really a repeating occurence, but it's too funny not to mention.

One game we were playing as marines, and we had been juggling our bases on mineshaft. Finally the aliens managed to push us back to our base, so any counterattack was unlikely. So we decided to turtle as best we could in there.

As the power node is one of the most vulnerable structures, we covered it in armories and welders. I believe it was a Drill Repair CC. In turn, a lot of people got stuck in that bugged spot next to the power node. But it didn't matter. All that mattered was survival. And dragging the game out as long as possible, of course.

So it pretty much turned into a hail of bilebombs and Onos rushes. We had guys welding the power node and armories near it as their only job. After like five minutes we just started laughing because it was so ridiculous.

Sadly, the CC got mobbed and we couldn't protect two structures at once and we lost the game. Oh well. 'Twas fun.
