Connecting to server

Hi,

I have posted previously and have received no support for this.

Basically, my brother is trying to play NS2. He opens game and joins a server. The map will load and he joins the ready room. Shortly after (inconsistent periods of time but usually around 0 - 60 seconds), the red connection error icon appears. He has tried full servers empty servers, modded servers vanilla servers and it happens in every server.

He is using Sky broadband in the UK using a Sagemcom Model NumberF@ST2504n which he informs me is a combined modem and router.

When he disconnects from server he does not lose internet connection and can return to main menu and refresh server browser, the issue appears to be purely when he has connected and joined a server.

I could really do with some assistance with this as this has been going on for months and he has not been able to play.

Thanks

Neil

Ok, so we disabled all firewalls and opened up some ports:

managed to connect to a server and hung around in the ready room fine with no problems for around 5 minutes. He then joined aliens and instantly the game hung. We had net_stats up and everything was fine apart from choke went to 100%.

This is really bizarre can anyone offer assistance please??

Looking at <a href="http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/5035194198?page=4" target="_blank">this</a> and <a href="http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Broadband-Gaming/The-Cause-of-the-High-Pings-TS3-etc-issues/td-p/529736/highlight/false" target="_blank">this thread</a>, it seems that recent firmware updates having been causing problems with other games (mainly WoW) and TS3. Are you having lag/latency issues in other online games or using VoIP programs?

You may want to try another modem/router (if possible) or contacting sky to see if they have fixed the firmware issues.
