Pre Load for Steam

I've had the game pre purchased on Steam and have been watching videos of people playing on YouTube as I do not have Beta access. I'm excited for the impending release as it is just about 2 weeks away right now.

This isn't a thread to ask for beta access or anything, I am well aware that Beta access is reserved for those who pre-ordered prior to the date at which NS2 went up on Steam. What I am asking for is a pre load. I've been on Steam long enough to know just how bad a major release can be. Or in the case of TF2, a major content update, seriously they really need to get better servers or something.

Now as it's still about 13 days or so until it's Halloween release, a pre load at this very moment, simply wouldn't be practical, especially as it's quite likely build 224 might pop out any day now. A pre load would be greatly appreciated, a week in advance, or even 5 days in advance, it would help alleviate some of the pains of downloading the game day off, especially as there are many who will be purchasing the game, day of. Again, I've had some experience with major releases and I fear unless there is a pre load, it's looking like myself and many others won't be able to actually play until about November 1st or 2nd.

Sure many who already have the game may start downloading it all at once if there is a pre load, but still, the preparation will help, ensuring most if not all pre orders can play day 1 of it's release and become cannon fodder for the Beta players to use as they rush the enemy! Just a thought and small request.

Fun Fact: If you type youtube in, it seems to think it's spelled incorrectly, but if you type it YouTube, it accepts it.

I wonder what kind of hurdles they put up for pre-loading and free weekends. Gotta be easier than retro-active free keys, right?

Even if the pre-load was not-quite-1.0, it would get most of the content on your machine. Then only a small patch to get up to date.

Exactly, Not sure what kind of channels they'd need to go through to organize a pre load but it would be appreciated, and I'm guessing it'd be a fair bit easier than the free keys they handed out. And the pre load would be like you said, getting the content on peoples machines now so it wouldn't be a hassle at launch.

This was asked in the latest dev q&a. Depending on the effort required to make this happen, they may or may not have a pre load available.

If not ns has about 4,5gb, which should be downloaded fairly quick.

Oh, well, do hope they do it.

Though even though it's only 4.5 it can still take a considerable amount of time. Steam isn't well known for it's good download rates for big releases. Again, the TF2 thing.

It was me who asked if they would make it possible to pre load the game. Steam is not that good with big releases especially with a dozen of games coming out on 31st.
They do not know if it is possible. I hope so would be nice to be able to play when the game is released. On the other Hand I fear there will not be enough servers for everyone to play on. But that is another problem.

I do want to chime in that (sadly) NS2 is nowhere near on the level of a TF2 release, or even a Valve/other AAA title release. You won't have the bazillions of people all grabbing for their mainstream game at the same time, so the rates should be nicer.

Hmm, I suppose this is true, though I do think they community is still a significant size.

Though part of me is also asking, will it be released 12 AM on the 31st or sometime during the day or late at night?

I would expect it to arrive on their usual patching schedule, which is in the morning of the 31st PST. (I.e when the valve offices open and they start putting through patches) Though don't quote me on that.

Exactly, sometimes we realize the dumb or inaccuracy we have said and simply wish to delete all existence of it!

@Xarius Thank you for that little bit of info, it is helpful in a sense.
