Difference between Amazon and Steam purchase

Hi,

What is the difference between purchasing NS2 from the front page using Amazon and purchasing it from Steam? Does the game require Steam to play? If I purchase it from Amazon will I just receive a Steam activation code?

It's not on Amazon per se, you can purchase it using Amazon. Click on the Pre-Order link on the front page.
