It works out to be similar to what you described for shooting (because of the time rewind) - you see yourself ahead of where other players see you. So you can poke your head around a corner and shoot before they react.
But it works out different for player collisions and dodging. Other players are a bit ahead of where you see them.
Well, tried out NS2 again after who knows how many builds since the last time and...
Well, the game still doesn't cater for lower performing machines whatsoever. Sure I got a computer that have a few years behind it but it can still run many new games on decent settings. NS2 still fails to reach the same level and is thus still too laggy for proper gameplay. Even at lower settings I might add which is just. No.
Granted the performance has improved extremely noticeably from the time when the first version rolled out which was simply impossible to play at, but as it stands I will simply have to ice NS2 until I get a new machine.

Oh it's an old machine alright: AMD X2 4800, 4 gigs of RAM, 8800GT and Vista. But it is obviously past the limit for many new games if they're on max settings, but still holds it's own on most medium settings. Depends on the game in question as well of course, but for a game like NS2, I'd really expect it to do well on medium/low settings which it simply doesn't.
Well, regardless it's going to be retired next year so :P
Huh? I ran Bad Company 2 with pretty much highest settings with E8400, 4 gigs or RAM, 8800GT and Vista. NS2 with low setting worked quite well too some time ago.
Now I'm on i7 3610QM, 8 gigs of RAM and a GTX 670M. Almost all settings maxed. During the last builds I got 30-70 FPS. I've yet to test how much 224 increasedmy performance. (If any)

That Processor is 7 years old. Release date May 31, 2005.
I would not expect too much of it at all in a modern game

i had a 8800 gts when bc2 came out , but only had an x2 4200+. had to grab my current quad core to play. still the 8800 series.. lol i miss bc2, fantastic game. too bad bf3 sucks so hard.
vista is probably also adding to your performance issues skyrage, The whole os is geared toward hogging your cpu/memory/hd time especially when you need it the most. If i remember correctly you couldn't even run vista with less then 2 gigs of ram and expect a smooth experience. Especially with an older HD or CPU running the show, I know it's not always an option but it might be time for an upgrade =).
SSD + Win 7 is a fairly cheap upgrade when compared to a new pc entirely. And if you do get an SSD + win 7 you can use both of those in the new pc you build for gaming later on.

What're your specs? CPU, Memory, GPU and OS?
Well, regardless it's going to be retired next year so :P
