You could also right click on your Steam icon, and click NS2 (At least in Windows7). It launched it directly without asking you if you wanted the Launchpad ;)
But I agree, not everybody wanted to launch the Launchpad. Anyway, is there a way to launch it without having to use the explorer? Having it in "Tools" or by right clicking in the Steam library would be better I think for people who still want to access it.
I really liked the prompt asking if I'd like to launch NS2 or Launch Pad. But I guess the majority doesn't want that stupid prompt. ;)
If you want to be able to run Launch Pad from Steam like me, just make a Steam shortcut by clicking Steam->Games->Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library, and setting it to .\steamapps\common\natural selection 2\LaunchPad.exe
