Server browser not reporting correct pings

I see this in the server browser:

But, when I actually join a server, my ping is fine:

There are only 500+ pings visible - there is no other color than red in the server browser. It doesn't bother me a whole lot, being in the mid-west, I can join almost any us server and be fine. But, I did a search on the forums and don't see any mention of this issue with anyone else. Makes me wonder if I'm the only one it happens to or if I just suck at forum searches ...
