Anammox, I had an empty serverlist, apart from my favourites...those did show up.
Sure, how to add favs, if your list stays empty lol...

Try connecting to a server, using Steam itself?
And when ingame, hit Esc, click Play, and if you have a list now, find the server again you're on, and add it to Favs.

    My Server browser experience:

Start ns2, click play, click to join a server
80% of the time now follows a "couldn't establish connection" message.

Now i'm back in the main menu, click play again - this time the server browser doesn't show a list, and im also unable to make it update for ~3-5 minutes.

So using the ns2 serverbrowser, it takes average 10min until i can join a server. (it feels more like hours tho)

I have tried everything i could find in the forums ever, from router to steam, and its not my first time posting about the problem. (i also uploaded logs, but they basically show nothing that could help)

The only way for me to join servers without getting in the mood of just deleting the game forever is steamfriends and nanogrid, tho nanogrid lacks a lot of options - doesnt show pings, rookie servers - no filters etc.

I guess it would help if they would seperate update and refreshing the server browser, so instead of needing to update the full list everytime you leave the browser menu, it would just try to refresh it first (or better, do nothing and let me choose what I want to do)
Or somebody that would start working on nanogrid again to make it awesome.

edit: nanogrid is also not that awesome, refreshing the list takes relative long as well - but at least it lets me connect reliably. (it never got me a couldnt establish connection error)

Just for fun ill also add a netlog:

    Date: 05/04/13
    Time: 15:15:20
    Build 246
    Steam initialized
Render Device: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti (9.18.13.2000)
Sound Device: Lautsprecher (ASUS Xonar D1 Audio Device) 7.1
Record Device: Mikrofon (2- Logitech G35 Headset)
Mounting mod from C:/Users/MyWindowsUsername/AppData/Roaming/Natural Selection 2/Workshop/m822772b_1365004263/ (Koruyo's Xhairs Type 3v3)
    Loading config://ConsoleBindings.json
    Loading config://FavoriteServers.json
Main Menu Initialized at Version: 246
    Steam Id: 11759778
Network logging set to level 3

    Connecting to server "ServerIP"
    "ServerIP" System packet sent (PacketType_Connect)
"ServerIP" Client: Resending reliable 0 (send 150 ms ago)
"ServerIP" Client: Resending reliable 0 (send 150 ms ago)
"ServerIP" Client: Resending reliable 0 (send 150 ms ago)
    .
    .
    .
    timeout

Thats how it is for me, since beta times.

Tho i have found another workaround that works relative often - if i click to join the server before the list is fully loaded the chance that it works(no couldnt establish connection error) seems a lot higher.

you did clear your ns2 settings in the appfolder of your profile?
Ever tried completely destorying your ns2 steam cache to see if that helps? (This one will reset also the server browser)

Squishpoke has made a good tutorial on resetting the cache:

Hello I may have found a fix:

    go to:

    Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections

Disable all connections except for the one that you're actually intending to use(disable ethernet if you're not using ethernet and just enable the wifi). After you do that, it should show up all the servers in the browser. The reason it's doing this is because your computer is probably confused on which connection to use and therefore stops the browsers from working in game.

My problem is a little different though, I was getting 0 servers from the browser list on all games which is what I thought the thread title implied but oh well.

Resetting the ns2 steam profile does nothing, and i only have a single Ethernet connection active. : /

Have you tried limiting the steam server refresh rate in steam settings?
The issue is the browser does not limit the speed at which it refreshes.. So some network hardware freak out /become flooded when this happens.

This is why joining off a friend produces better results : you're not flooding your network with queries.
