<div class="IPBDescription">The tongue bashing of others</div> I was in a game today, where i was a gorg. No big deal right? Well i make one web like a few inches off the floor. I hear in my headset, make the webs on the floor so they can't be seen.
I go i know that, i just wanted to make it higher for a mental affect.
Well if you knew that why didn't you do that?
THen the conversation jsut spiraled down from there.
Basically, iam tired of people telling me how to play. Aliens do not have a commander. The only time you should tell someone to do somthing is if there a completly new, and requests how to do somthing, or if you need to be healed and the like.
Telling people, put movement next, no no not sensory aaahhh!!! IS not the best way to play. Change, or better yet, evolve your palying strat to those around you. Aliens are flexible, marines are not.
Just in general conclusion, only give advice if asked. I assume everyone knows how to play, till they ask about somthing, or mess up badly.
Hopefully this will deter some of the messages i have been getting, cuz iam tired of being ordered.

That aside i think the best web setup is the typical zigzag on the ground -behind- a few on the walls in obvious site. Often marines will veer away from those visible web grids, and if they come and welder it, there is still a change they'll over look the second set and get stuck. Unless they bunny hop. Then your out of luck. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I kinda agree about the advice thing, people need to stop complaining and just play...
Too many gorges
INCORRECT:
"we don't need 3 gorges, one of you go skulk"
CORRECT:
"more gorges means slower resource gain, if you want another hive, one of you should go skulk"
SITUATION:
You want another movement chamber
INCORRECT:
"put up another movement chamber gorges"
CORRECT:
"when one of you gorges has the time, would one of you mind putting up another movement chamber?"
SITUATION:
You're waiting for the 2nd hive
INCORRECT:
"hurry up on that hive"
CORRECT:
"how close are we to hive 2?
etc...
Just give people polite, intelligent suggestions that make them <i>want</i> to listen to you.
Absolutely. Nothing gets on my bad side faster than a skulk who takes the time to write a huge "<i>this is how it's supposed to be done, you stupid gorge</i>" message.
In that case, a "<i>shouldn't you be killing marines and not wasting time writing messages, you stupid skulk?</i>" message usually either shuts them up or gets on <b>their</b> bad side (which, in most cases, results in insults, comments of 'noob'-ness, and trying to rally everyone else on the team against that gorge).
It's quite pathetic, really.
I quit one game after hearing "hurry up on hive" several times while I was trying to go solo against a turret factory. If someone is gonna waste the time typing that out, why don't they just come help?
If I am waiting for resources to get a hive, I make sure and post every 10 rp increment just so skulks don't feel the need to stop hunting marines to take the time to write a message saying to "hurry up on hive".
Worst part is I hate to go gorge. I just do it if no one else wants to. But then I get complaints because I can't do it good enough. Pffft...
Thats why I yell over voice comm 'stupid gorge' (I can't even pronounce gorge correctly, but im still trying). <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Though on the other hand, There should be a alien vote like the eject commander. They are slightly less centralized but people can still single handedly ruin a team. How about an eject moron that bans people who tell others how to play the class they are playing. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Unfortunately, there'll always be some condescending, self-centered idiot who thinks he's the best thing to happen to Natural Selection since Half Life. It happens not only in this game, but probably every game, event, sport, discussion, debate, topic, and field of study.
Having a private/pwd'd server is a great way to avoid the morons, since many private servers are actually <i>private</i>. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
We'll always have our share of good and bad players, but as the community develops, I'm sure it will flesh out and people will become more reasonable. Always remember, this is a team game, not a personal effort. You kill for the team, you build for the team and if your team is unwilling to do something for you, perhaps you've done something to offend them. You're only screwing yourself by angering your team. Consideration is the highest priority in a team game.
When I am playing with good players I tell 'em, "good job on that hive/defense/attack/buildings/saving my carapace"...there is nothing better then a gorge doing the right thing...allows me to die with a purpose and evolve(which I do enjoy) then decimate.
but for the most part if I am unhappy enough with my team mates I tell 'em and jump into the ready room...catch a smoke, hit the john or just watch 'em die. A lot of times someone will follow me and validate my point. sometimes I get blamed for losing the match...hey, whatever...I ain't gonna keep killing myself so 4 gorges can build 4 OC's in 10 minutes. if the marines need a hand I switch sides...if all else fails I go to another server.
On one particularly bad server a dude said to me..."Advice I don't mind, but don't bite my head off dude"...I knew he was right...I did overreact and had to apologize. when talking to teammates bark is worse then bite.
Chamber Placement
I often tell gorges to build defense chambers first or to heal me. This is much more effective then offense chambers in many situations.
You often need to build closer to where the attack is happening, and often gorges need a reminder, since they aren't attacking, they don't know where everyone is attacking from.
An excess of gorges is often casued by this, since no gorge will come build by you, you decide to go gorge yourself then evolve back, resulting in slower resoruce distribution, and tempory lapse in attacking units.
Upgrade Chamber Order
Now this is the most controversial one, I prefer defense/movement/sensory (i'm really not sure what you want with cloak if your going to assault bases, and seeing how carapace lets skulks take twice as many rounds from a lmg, or was it 3 times as many) So what do you do if a gorge builds a sensory for 2nd hive perhaps? Great I can cloak now, but I can't finish destroying a base without running out of energy, and they just come in to repair it. Since only a single gorge is needed to place down one of these structures (unchangeable unless you blow a hive, which you can't do yourself) This should really be a thing discussed among the team, and not the sole decision of one gorge. Or people may all start evolving into gorges right before a hive is done just to make sure they get the chamber of there choice down.
I remember someone doing a test in how you die in 10 shots from an LMG and 20 with lvl 3 carapce, its somewhere in these forums. Forgot the exact figures atm.
I disagree about whether it's appropriate to argue about chamber orders. But nevertheless, the best way to go about anything is to be polite.
Actually, I hardly go through a game without giving people advice. But that's because I hardly go through a game where there isn't someone asking "how do I build stuff? What do defense towers do?" and SOMEONE has to tell them <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

I agree 100%.
I hate it when some stupid gorge lays down a sensory as the second chamber, instead of movement, as fades then perform at about 50% capacity. How sensory is better than movement as the second chamber is beyond me...
I can understand it if most of the team wants it, but if the gorge simply wants to cloak or is a newbie, and does it without asking infuriates me. I have lost many a match due to this happening, and it sucks when it does happen.
My thoughts why SCs suck as 2nd chamber:
Cloaked fades... Wow, how useful when they can attack twice. The time when you first get fades is when the aliens usually have the upper hand until the marines get HA/HMG. This generally means the aliens are attacking. Cloaking is a hell of a lot less useful when you are attacking fortifications. Getting sensory as the second chamber is just asking for a loss.
Getting sensory as a first chamber is not as bad, but defense is still better IMO.
Obviously, these loud-mouth players are there for one reason - to win. It's the short-sightedness of these self-focused players that can, and usually does, ruin that game/match for just about everyone else.
I don't play to win, I play to have fun. If I lose, so what? Every game has one team that's victorious, and one team that gets defeated.
During the last few minutes of games where we're getting crushed, I've seen players who will curse, yell, scream, and throw insults as if their defeat <i>in a game</i> means the loss of their own life.
It's quite childish, really. I guess some people just get too used to basking in their own self-proclaimed 1337-ness, and get angry when others don't grovel at their feet.
The one thing I will never understand is why newbies who self-admittedly "dont know anything about Alien" all flock to play Gorge? Do they think that they are safer as noobs because they can hide behind their own offense chambers? Gorge is the <b>worst</b> possible role a newbie can possibly play. I've seen newbie Gorges who put up random offense and defense towers that aren't even near each other, then spend more than 20 Webs on a <i>single doorway</i> and then proceed to get killed by a single LMG marine. Worse yet, they sit in base draining the resources from good Gorges, and build defense and offense towers in the main hive <i>in the very beginning of the game</i>, right when you most need to save every cent to put up more Resource towers. If a gorge like that gets yelled and cursed at all day long, they deserve it - newbies <b>shouldn't play Gorge</b>. <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->
I ask nicely for chambers. Nothing. I ask again. "I'm saving for the 2nd hive".
Please, if you're going to be rude, at least be good at what you do <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
In the end I went gorge myself, got a forward base up, and it all was sweet. Marines taste even better when they think they're doing well and suddenly it all goes wrong <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
AND HOW
all I hear = "gimme gimme gimme, build this, build that, don't do that, do this, do this first, don't put that there, do this instead"
the only thing I agree on that someone should be bitched out for doing is putting up sensory first...thats just retarded
Hmm... it takes exactly 20 LMG shots to kill a lvl 3 carap skulk ... so it's more like exactly 5 dam per shot.
