Aliens and marines can jump. Not sure how high, or what they'll be doing to prevent bunny hopping (Flayra has mentioned something about trying to prevent that I think). However, if you check out the Class Four data, that guy can bounce off of -walls-... so he could do this little bounce bounce bounce bounce bounce thing down a hallway, that'd prolly make him harder to hit than a bunnyhopper. But that's the point.
As for shooting on ladders... Nooooo clue. Though I agree... that's kinda annoying.
No shooting on the ladders! Ladders seams to be the least working thing in the half-life engine. How does L5 climb on a ladder.
You are usually very weak when on a ladder because you cant dodge or even strafe, so the possibility to shoot from it doesnt change the things much... Oh wait, you say that because its unrealistic!
Yeah sure no way this can happen! ¬_¬
Then i want, food drinks and a WC for the marines and if you dont go to the WC from time to time your movement becomes dull as you have to be pressing your legs to each other and sealing your ### from a possible excremental explo... I don't know about you, but if one of these aliens was coming at me and I was half-way up a ladder and had a gun, you can bet your ### I'd be holding on with one arm and spraying as much hot lead with the other hand as I could. Perhaps if it were eventually possible to prevent climbing and shooting at the same time, that would be okay, but preventing any kind of shooting while you are on a ladder at all could be really aggravating. I do agree, however, that the HL ladders are one of the most quirky parts of the game.
Maybe you could have it so that you cant turn all the way round when on a ladder , you stop at just short of 180 degrees. You could probably make the aim worse than normal (slight screen shakes, something like that)
Well, I've always wanted a game in which you can shoot on ladders, but you would only be able to use one arm, since you would need the other to hang on to the ladder. You would only be able to shoot light machine guns or other smaller, lighter guns, with a high penalty to accuracy, of course... just my opinion

I think firing from a ladder should be allowed with any weapon, however, that doesnt mean youd want to: My Ideas:
1 When firing from a ladder, no movement is allowed up or down, I cant climb with one hand, can you?
2 The chance that you fall is proportionate to the weapon. You could, in theory try to use a nuke gun from a ladder. Odds are though, you'd be flung off to your death. Likewise, there would still be a chance you could lose your grip with a light machine gun, just not much.
3 As was already stated, firing should be either limited in range, or extremely innacurate.
If its not possible to cause people to fall according to what theyre doing on a ladder(programming-wise), Maybe they could lose their grip on their weapon and not be able to get it back (it wouldnt be waiting on the floor). That would decrease use of Nuke guns on Ladders.I personally wouldnt chance dropping a big heavy, shiny, new nuke gun by gimpishly rattling off shots in a limited range innacurately while standing still.
This way, marines can defend themselves limitedly, as being defenseless is a terrible feeling that would cause people to avoid ladders all together and turn them into ambush spots.

Course thats kind of a funny though, big tough marines who have ladder-phobia. That'll be my marine name "Ladder-phobic". Yes. . . this is a random pointless post.

I refer to my second post as random, not the first. Pleas consider the first.

Thank you. Though you I will warn everyone that they may see two personalities when the read my posts. Either the clear, concise, intelligent me or the crazy random, stupid me. It depends on what music is playing on winamp generally. For example, this is a farely stupid and pointless post I am writing right now. I apologize. Just thought I'd warn you all.
If its the future wont they just have mini elevators in almost every area except for janitor, ship maintenance places and stuff?? I mean the marines are there to recover people and on civilian ships im sure its comfort over funtion...
Yeah, but however they'll still be there for workers and the like. My bet is that they'll be small and enclosed, thus making shooting from a ladder somewhat moot....

No . . I dont regret typing it.
Yeah ladders are tricky, but hey just do like they do in cs, you can shoot on ladders but youy hit almost nothing
