Decouple ability research from hive

<u>Problem</u>

We can all agree fast hive -> leap -> save for onos has become utterly stale. Second hive is too critical and the loss of it usually spells the end of the game for aliens. Not only this, but tier 3 abilities go nearly completely unused which could otherwise add a lot a variety to the game.

Solving this issue requires not devaluing the hive such that they are glorified healing stations, but also not making them so critical that their loss means the end.

<u>Proposed solution</u>

Decouple abilities from hive requirement
Increase tier 2 ability research cost and time by a factor of 2
Increase tier 3 ability research cost and time by a factor of 3
Additional hives multiply tier2 research cost and time by 1/2
Additional hives multiply tier3 research cost and time by 1/3

<u>Example</u>

Leap (tier 2) currently costs 25 res, takes 60 seconds to research and requires 2 hives. Under the proposed change leap will cost 50 res and take 120 seconds to research on 1 hive, 25 res and 60 seconds on 2 hives, 12.5 res and 30 seconds on 3 hives.

Stomp (tier3) currently costs 30 res, takes 90 seconds to research and requires 3 hives. Under the proposed change stomp will cost 90 res, takes 270 seconds to research on 1 hive, 60 res and 180 seconds on 2 hives, 30 res and 90 seconds on 3 hives.


Actual cost and times could probably be reassessed under this system. But with these changes not only would there be much more variety in alien strats but the loss of the second hive wouldn't make the 150 tres and you have completely useless.
