Sound cuts out in Steam overlay

When I enter the Steam overlay, my sound is gone. While it's not exactly a game-destroying bug, it is rather annoying that if I pause while dead to send a quick reply to a friend, I might miss what the comm wants me to do on the next spawn. It's also sort of a buzzkill that the delightful music vanishes while I use the overlay during load screens.

I hear that this might be so people can watch tutorial videos without game sound bleeding through. I get that, but is there any way I can reenable game sound in the overlay on my client, since I don't have need of the videos anymore?

its intended from what I've been told since the tutorials are played through the overlay they didn't want ingame sounds to go over it

Yes, I know it's intentional. I want to know if there is a way to make it not happen, though.
