Hive/CS cost question

Just a quick question.

Currently watching the European Finals and I had a question about the cost for the hive vs. command station.

Why does the hive cost 40 res when it is pretty much required for mid-late game alien play and the command station cost 15 res when it only opens up the proto? So much more rests on the 2nd hive than on the 2nd command station and the 2nd hive comes much earlier, but it costs 2x as much. And if marines are supposed to have more resource points than aliens, shouldn't the command station cost more?

I haven't added up all the costs for aliens/marines, but at least as far as tech, it seems like the total cost for aliens is greater than for marines. This seems counter to what the devs have said since marines are supposed to have more resource points.

    To pre-empt any declarations of importance:
    Starcraft's Zerg require a second hatchery (hive) just as much as the Kharaa, as it ramps up their unit production. But theirs costs 100 minerals LESS than the other two races, because their inherent race advantage is fast expansion. (this 100 minerals does not, however, count the cost of the sacrificed Drone)

    Or, you know, do the opposite and make the chair cost more. It would take a chunk out of Arms Lab upgrades - a well-deserved chunk if you ask me.

    Its <b>because </b>the hive is so important that it costs more. You get what you pay for, ya know? If you make something that gives very little, very expensive, then nobody will drop it. If you make something that gives you a lot of stuff, relatively cheap, everyone will always drop it as soon as possible.

    Simply put, Hives cost more because hives are worth more. New hives open up new research options, new spawn points, and new healing stations. Marines have to buy IPs for spawning, Armories for healing, and Proto Labs for researching; they actually wind up paying more for all the things aliens get because they have to buy them individually.

    While this is true many times i will see commanders drop CS at every tech point just to slow the alien fast 2nd hive and with it only being 15 res they can do that. Although for healing marines have phase gates to travel back and forth. Aliens don't have that but Flayra says it's coming it should only allow aliens in not marines too.
