<div class="IPBDescription">Yep</div>Hey all, I'm still holding off on producing any kind of guides or tuts until I can get everything at least %99 squared away on my end first, right now the SMG hack is experiencing some minor glitches in-game, due to some values differing between the outdated copy of the source file I received, and the one currently in use on public severs! Until I get all this resolved and fully understood, I decided to spend my veteran's day working on this little number.
I had always used the pistol in NS1 as my primary weapon, and the LMG as a backup "spray and pray" sort of weapon, and although I typically end up in the command chair, when I'm not, I still have a special place in my heart for the powerful little handgun. As such it needs something a bit more intimidating than a space-luger the way I see. And so I set out to design something crazy, over-sized, sci-fi, and intimidating! I think I'm on to something good so far... Here is what I have so far, mind you it's still in the blockout process, I'm still working out some aspects of the concept to make it all feasible and interesting in-game!
<img src="http://ice.annihilation.info/NS2/HandCannon05.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
It is a bottom-breach loading super space revolver with rounds large enough to kill a skulk WITHOUT putting them in the gun!
The barrel is on the bottom half of the gun, like a matiba revolver, and the entire barrel assembly opens downward to allow the entire cylinder to be replaced like a magazine. This is demonstrated slightly in the image, but expect it to make more sense as I mesh out the concept.
Stay tuned for updates.

Believe it or not, everything started as blocky as the pistol grip, I've just been putting it off for some time now =p
That's pretty awesome.
Granted I have been doing this kind of thing for over a decade, the original Starsiege: Tribes in '98!
I just don't have the time to dedicate to it anymore, so it's all just hobby-work.
Right now I'm having a difficult time going to bed without making this decision though:
<img src="http://ice.annihilation.info/NS2/HandCannon07.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Top or Bottom?
Since the revolver is using a bottom mounted barrel like the Mateba revolvers, I'm concerned that people are expecting there to be a barrel at the top, where one would normally be. I'm experimenting adding a slight grade to the nose, to help draw the eyes down toward the actual barrel... I'm thinking of going with the grade... but I could use some feedback.

It seems easy enough to tell where the bullet's going to be coming from, IMO.
Other than that, your bottom image looks a little more sci-fi sleek, though of course, that just serves to make the top image look more 'practical'.
Personally, I'd take the bottom. I can see it fitting in really well with the rest of the current NS2 arsenal. And if you are concerned with drawing attention to the barrel, I think the reload animation (as demonstrated in the first post) should make it clear.
Btw, I say the bottom shot Evil_Ice. The angled front gives it a bit more character imo.
maybe you can add a bayonet/laser/camera over the barrel
1. to make it clear that the bullet comes out of the bottom
2. badass melee weapon ^^?

So I need to decide whether or not it needs a full trigger-guard (bar under the trigger) AND I need to decide PURELY from a size/proportion standpoint, which frame looks better, the top (as it currently is) or the bottom (slimmed down alot)... hmm wish I had some good feedback/criticism on this to help me make a decision while it's still early.

It's between these two ideas... I WILL be adding a trigger-guard soon as well, but I just have been short on time this week. Any critique/feedback to help push me in the right direction would be greatly helped!
Please again ignore the fact there are some weird deformations and triangles in the wrong places, this is due to the quick test repositioning of vertices.
Six shooters are simply awesome in any case!
6 is for cowboys ^^
ot the bulky one looks better
Also, this is 10 shots... for space-cowboys...
May have to include a cigar on the view model.
After all, Space-Cowboy > Cowboy.

Someone get the guy who made the mustache mod in here, ASAP!
It was bothering me so much that there was a bunch of unused, impractical space on the top of the gun, and it was still looking too much like a semi-auto handgun with a grenadelauncher attached to it, so I managed to make something semi-useful up there!
This is a "gas-operated" counter-recoil system, vented gases from the cylinder compress a weighted piston down the length of the "slide" and counter-act some of the massive recoil this bad-boy would be sure to have.
<img src="http://ice.annihilation.info/NS2/HandCannon10.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Few more conceptual blockout bits to work out fully, finish up the grip, add the trigger-guard, and then I can start working on more detailed bits.
[edit: stopping point for the night![

Just opened up Max, gonna get that grip cleaned up a bit more, and the trigger-guard and then move on to the mechanical arm, or maybe the ammo counter and rear iron sight...
<img src="http://ice.annihilation.info/NS2/HandCannon12.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Still playing around with how I want the arm to function. It's a mechanical aid, mostly for "something has to go here", but also possibly to help counteract the weight of the cylinder, and help lock it closed.
Right now it's functioning a bit like a cork-screw and a worm-drive had a baby, obviously this is still just blocking out ugly parts, trying to nail down proportions and function before I start working on making it look pretty.

The most awesome Space Cowboy in the history of man kind has 9 shots in his Jericho 941 though. And he can shoot with his finger :P
<div align='center'>BANG!

Below that kind of 'arc' in the back? doesnt seem to have that much space, sure things look different when finished, my bad.
I can foresee that the reloading animation will be badass on this one
Only a little progress.
Just sitting down, pouring a drink, and trying to finish the blockout tonight!

(but yes I've had a hard time not seeing a nerf gun on this design this whole week)
normal maps and textures will fix alot of this.
<img src="http://ice.annihilation.info/NS2/HandCannon16.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Just toying with sizes, and messing around (not at the animation stage just yet)
<img src="http://ice.annihilation.info/NS2/HandCannon17.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Still not %100 happy with the proportions of the top, a bit too much wasted space still, working on a little bit of a minor modification to help reduce that appearance, and improve the rear iron sight.
But, the barrel makes no sense on this position, in my opinion unless it is not a projectile weapon. Or where is the hammer supposed to be?
Sorry, i know it's science fiction, but it should be plausible..
or is it "ignited" electrically?
But as I said it looks very good and is far better than anything I could do.
Looking epic
