Metacritic Editor's Note

So it looks like while Metacritic won't take down the bad review, they did at least add a disclaimer.

[Editor's Note: this quotation and score are from the original GameSpot review. Metacritic, per long-standing site policy, only accepts a publication's first review/score for a given game.]

It is still kind of cryptic though and doesn't say that there's another review, but it implies it. There wouldn't be an original if there wasn't an updated one. Kind of cool that they at least did something! Not much but...something!

Only thing that sucks is that the Gamespot review holds more weight than the other reviews. The true average is a little over 80 but it's weighted more heavily because its a favored review source. That's pretty dumb.

If people actually buy games off stupid pointless numbers well then there going to be ###### at natural selection 2. Not to say the vast majority are not because there are some pretty ###### players now. I have actually never been to the metacritic website before in till now. All I can really say is its a ugly website filled with bad gamers talking about games. If UWE wanted better numbers then they should have made a more polished game. Its pretty clear to me after reading some of the posts by some of the dev that they dont care to fix small things. Or better yet there blind and don't even noticed hole in there levels. I remember a post from cory say that for a fact there were no holes in dockings vents. Yet he is wrong. ###### that guy.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Oh it's the hole guy again, hi nSidia.
    I think UWE is focusing more on the connection issues, black screen issues and performance issues, in short: getting more people to actually play the game.
    Balance, small fixes and features are probably lower on their list

    I'm not sure how much Metacritic matters, wiki says this:

    <!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metacritic#Influence_of_game_metascores" target="_blank">Influence of game metascores</a>

    Nick Wingfield of The Wall Street Journal has written that Metacritic "influence[s] the sales of games and the stocks of videogame publishers", citing as example "One company [which] requires game publishers to pay higher royalties if they receive low scores on such sites." Wingfield explains the influence of the website as coming from the higher cost to consumers of buying video games than for buying music or movie tickets.[2] Many executives say that low scores "can hurt the long-term sales potential" of game franchises.[2] Wingfield wrote that Wall Street is paying attention to Metacritic and Game Rankings because the sites typically post scores before any sales data are publicly available, citing the rapid rise and fall in value, respectively, of the relevant game companies following the release of BioShock and Spider-Man 3.[2]

    In an interview with The Guardian, Marc Doyle cited, "two major publishers" which "conducted comprehensive statistical surveys through which they've been able to draw a correlation between high metascores and stronger sales" in certain genres.[4] Doyle further claimed that an increasing number of businesses and financial analysts use Metacritic as "an early indicator of a game's potential sales and, by extension, the publisher's stock price."[4]

    In 2004, Jason Hall of Warner Bros. began "including 'quality metrics' in the contracts the studio signed with partners interested in licensing Warner movies for games." If a product does not receive specific scores or better from aggregator sites like Metacritic, some deals require game publishers to pay higher royalties to Warner Bros.[2]

    In 2008, Microsoft began using Metacritic review averages to de-list underperforming Xbox Live Arcade games.[8][9]<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    A Google query shows articles with mixed outcomes about the <a href="http://"https://www.google.com/#hl=en&safe=off&tbo=d&output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=influence+of+metacritic" target="_blank"> influence of Metacritic</a>.

    Those who live from selling this game. Also those who are interested in UWE making more games in the future and supporting NS2 in the long run. Those who don't care are the ones that don't care about the game and the company or those who are too stupid to understand that sales are f*cking important for a company.
