Aliens have some built-in auto-regen in 229

<div class="IPBDescription">Was this in 228?</div>I've noticed that even without regen, all aliens are now slowly regenerating their health.

I know this used to happen on infestation during earlier beta builds, but it didn't seem to be working at all in 228.

It also seems like structures such as cysts aren't self-repairing at all.

Am I hallucinating?

    Aliens have always had innate regeneration, all the way back to NS1 :P I am pretty sure it would have been a big story if it wasn't working in 228..

    All aliens have auto-healing:

    <!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->kAlienInnateRegenerationPercentage  = 0.02
    kAlienMinInnateRegeneration = 1
    kAlienMaxInnateRegeneration = 20<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

    So 2% of their max health, up to 20.

    Structures do not heal naturally, although they did at some point during the beta and was improved with healing bed upgrade at crag hive. This was removed to give the gorge something to do, and punish alien teams who didn't maintain their structures.

    Is it possible that I had been playing on servers that had disabled it then?

    I distinctly remember flapping about as a lerk in an empty locker-room at some point after release, watching with dismay as my ~20ish remaining life did not budge at all.

    Perhaps although it would be a very strange thing to remove. You should be getting this regeneration at all times, even when under attack.

    You guys haven't been paying attention if you didn't notice the buff, passive regen was buffed dramatically in 229 and made independent of infestation.

    Ah hah! That explains it.

    Thanks.

    it was always independant of infestation (for life forms)

    Well then I don't know what I saw back in 228!

    I honestly kept getting the impression I wasn't passively regening at all... I remember feeling surprised at the lack of passive regen... Sigh, not that it matters, it's definitely working now anyway.

    ah, maybe you did not notice it because of the high combat time out in 228 (was 5 seconds) which got reduced to 1.5 in 229. there were a few other changes in 229, but it was definitely already working in 228 and before.

    I know there's been an infestation component of it before, and the community changelog mentioned it for 229, but maybe not I dunno. It was always hard to tell what the heck was going on with it.

    I never understood why aliens regenerate health (without the regeneration upgrade) off infestation.

I get the impression that it is difficult to do this without making the aliens dependant on infestation being present to function. Still, I think it'd be awesome if a marine had to give serious thought as to whether or not he should risk chasing a fleeing alien onto infestation.

    As far as I know, the only advantage aliens have on infestation is that gorge belly slide is more effective. Aliens may be faster on infestation as well, but I am not sure about that one.

    Once upon a time, infestation used to temporarily parasite marines who stood on it. I don't know if this still occurs... Hard to tell, what with hive-sight itself now having such a painfully short range.
