16:9 resolutions letterboxed on 16:9 monitor

<div class="IPBDescription">Anyone know how to fix this?</div>Hi all,

I'm sure this worked a month or two ago when I tried it but now I'm having this problem. I have been running the game on my native resolution of 1920x1080 but wanted to try lowering it to 1600x900 to see if there was any gain in performance, but when I change the resolution to either 1600x900 or 1280x720 (i.e. the only other 16:9 resolutions available) the screen shows up letterboxed (black strip above and below picture). This doesn't happen on 1920x1080, it fills the screen as you would expect. On any resolution with a different aspect ratio the picture fills the screen but is stretched/compressed as you would expect.

Running the game in windowed gives the correct ratio and the window is smaller than the monitor, fullscreen windowed mode gives the same with a black border all the way around.

Does anyone know if/how I can get the game to fill the screen on 1600x900? Like I said I think I could do this a month or two back, so maybe this is a bug that has snuck in some time in the last ~10-15 builds.

Thanks.

Hmm, this is indeed quite weird. It should simply stretch across the screen, especially if the screen has the same aspect ratio... Do you have a monitor setting to letterbox none max resolutions. On the monitor controls itself?

Not as far as I can tell, I just uninstalled my monitor drivers so now it shows as Generic PnP in the device manager but I still have to letter-boxing in game, weird.

Edit: Yes, something weird is going on with the monitor, I just noticed that in the monitor OSD menu it switches the resolution from 1920x1080 to 1600x1200 when I change the in-game resolution, not really sure how to fix this now, to the google-mobile!

Edit 2: It seems my monitor (Iiyama ProLite E2208HDD) does not actually support any 16:9 resolution below 1920x1080, I must have been imagining that I got it to work before, can't even set windows resolution to 1600x900 without letterboxing. Annoying but evidently no way around it, just have to play in 1920x1080!

I was about to say that you monitor seems to be the issue, not scaling the image properly. But I guess you already figured that out. :)

    Yeh, it's very annoying...

Check your graphics card control panel, Nvidia has a built in scaling option, I'm sure AMD probably has similar. If you do have an Nvidia card, its in the "Adjust desktop size and position" area of the control panel.

I get this too, but it also happens in other games.

It's a 16:9 monitor, but testing 1280x720/1600x900 gives a thin black border all the way around. If I put it to 1280x768 (5:3 ratio) it scales fully, but of course that means the picture is a little squashed. Weird.

I can't see any scaling options in the Catalyst Control Center.

There is usually a setting on the monitor itself as well that might interfere with it. Doesn't change the fact that its still very weird it does the black bar thing on the same aspect ratio...
