NS2 needs something for winning

I like this game for the teamwork, and the strategy you have to use, but everything builds up to taking out the last hive, or command station, then boom nothing. All that build up just to go back to waiting room. There needs to be awards, stats, or something to make it all worth it. I'm not bored of NS2 yet, but it's definitely not as fun when I first started. Stats, awards, upgrades, character unlocks, or something would make a win actually feel like a win! Take killing floor for example. You can play that game forever, and your always upgrading and achieving something, and after you kill the last boss on the final wave you feel acomplishment and everyone is excited etc. On NS2 it's back to the waiting room whether you win or lose, and no one really cares.

Having fun isn't fun anymore, it seems.

    Oh, the CoD generation!

    A free copy of NS2?

But in all seriousness isn't that what a lot of multiplayer games are like? You have an objective you meet, it you win. Start again.

Although I did have an idea of having all the maps placed on to a larger "world map" you win at one location and that becomes the property of that faction. move on to the next map. The idea was to be sort of like Dawn of war soulstorm where if you attack a territory already owned by a faction it will be slightly mroe fortified etc.

You don't get anything when you win a game of chess or baseball, do you?

The desire to get more shiney skins, make more numbers go up, to keep advancing and pushing the lever in your skinner box in hopes of constant reward. You're not looking for a game; you're looking for a fix.

The reward for playing NS2 is fun. The accomplishment for playing it repeatedly is getting better. The draw is doing something you love. If you want something to satisfy the addiction to constant reinforcement that modern games have psychologically impressed into you, I recommend Halo 4, Warfighter, or the new CoD game coming out; NS2 isn't that kind of game.

NS2 is like football or rock paper scissors. It's like chess or running a race. It's something people do in their free time to have fun; either with friends they know or to test themselves against people they don't. The reward for doing well is winning, and the losing team still gets to have a fun game and a learning experience. It's not designed to draw you in or keep you playing if you don't want to, but for those of us who like gaming, it's a great way to relax or even do the opposite. Little Susie, Apple Pie, Troops, Picket Fences, rabble rabble rabble, etc.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

You can do this yourself. When you win a game, go onto the Steam Workshop and download yourself a new model or skin. You earned it after all. You can put every Steam Workshop mod on a checklist and make yourself requirements for using them.

By the way, I'm being sarcastic.

I would agree that NS2 needs post-game stats to show when the game finishes. Not KDR, but something interesting to show impact of players on the game. Heal amounts, winning commander names, top killers, top res destroyers, etc.

However unlocks? Thats just counter productive to the RTS side of the game, and is only artificially extending the life of the game (like COD or MMOs). Achievements also cause players to do stupid things in order to reach them. Best to just avoid.

Tim might have a good idea. Many RTSes show these sorts of statistics:

    -Average unspent resources per team
    -Average resources over time
    -Player kills over time
    -Point distributions
    -Units/upgrades built

More of a postgame might be kind of fun, and help people learn from their mistakes.

Building on this, just had a thought.

Age of Empires 2 has graphs showing population over time of both sides, territorial control (sort of) and research progress. I would love to see this in NS2. You could actually see where the game start to go wrong.

I have no problem with some post game stat screens (currently it even wipes the scoreboard as soon as you are in the ready room again), but no silly achievements, ranks or unlocks please.
Though the stat screens wouldn't have much meaning anyway because the game currently has no concept of assists and of course doesn't reflect on a player's actual usefulness. I can pile up the most deaths of my team but was actually one of the most valuable players in the match because the rest was just holding positions and afraid of a confrontation with the enemy. Or I can build 90% of a structure and then a team mate comes and starts building as well and he gets all the credit for building it because he got the last tick to finish it and I get nothing in return.
Healing your alien friends as Gorge or protecting other players with Umbra as Lerk isn't rewarded either. Instead you get ridiculous amounts of score once you start throwing some Bile Bombs into the enemy base. But UWE already said that they wanted to do something about the score system at some point but never got to it thus far.

I think charlie has mentioned he wanted to do post game stats in the readyroom that everyone can look at physically.

Sounds interesting but for the love of god, keep win/loss and kill/death ratio out of this game. K/D killed Call of Duty for me.
