I just praticed converting by converting a high definition grunt from half life. i'm about 40% done converting, but was wondering if anyone was actually interested in this so i could see whether to finish this or not. Any takers?
Could be interesting to see <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Ok, i'm done with the conversion for the opfor grunt. If anyone can host the file, would greatly appreciate it. Its just the hi definition half life grunts and its under 700kb.
what are u talking about folk? and lancerevox if u scroll down or check pages 2-4 u should see some posts about free webspace or people who are offering to share some webspace.
i'm not taking any credits for it, and other ppl are releasing conversions from AVP2, so i guess it makes no difference. i'm just doing a straight conversion. nothing was modified cept for size so it could fit on the bones. and besides, i just want to see some half life elements in a half life powered mod.
fine then i wont' post it. i don't see wuts wrong, other ppl are posting conversions of avp2 models. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
Some people really are idiots. Why do you have to harsh on people when they do nice things for the community? Sure, maybe strictly speaking it's against the eula, but a lot of people who have NS will already have the model (ie will have paid for the privilege of using it) and all this chap's done is made it available for use in another HL mod.
I say release it if you want mate. There's no harm in it. I'd certainly like to see it - I think it would be a fun one to play with skins for.
i was told a long time back its ok to use any hl engine based model for any other mod (not including personally made models, except in certain circumstances valve still retain the rights to your model odd isnt it?) so id assume its ok, i dont remember reading that section of the opfor eula maybe you could reprint it here man?
look, not trying to get anyone in trouble, but i respect valve/gearbox. anyways... it's not valve's, it's gearbox's. not opfor, blueshift - which don't expect many people here to own.
who cares if it's "against the eula" 99.99999% of the people who play any game, listens to any music, or anything on a pc, 'violates' the eula. so go ahead and release the model.
they can't do anything to you because:
1. you're not claiming the model as urs 2. you're not charging for the model.
hey, just send email me the model, if ppl want models well just email it, if the care so much hey can hunt me down. it just a damn model, i could friggin play hl and see the same thing why the hell does it matter. so lancer if u email it to me, we could just email it ppl who would like it, if u choose not to find somewhere to host it.
I'd be intrested in that conversion and if you do get it hosted then just send an email to gearbox informing them that you've taken a model they made for OpFor and converted it for a newly released mod. All in all, they won't care.
Its just a little marine model anyways, nothing really big. Its just there for ppl who want to customize. And yea, anyone who wants it can email me too.
I remember I was converting a lot of shogo models to the unreal engine years ago, I got an email from monolith, and i thought I'd get this huge session of "we're going to sue you" type of attitude.. all they said was "Heard ur using our models, great job! let us know how it turns out."
now if valve wants to keep their modding community, they won't go all "fox" on us.. lol so i think it's safe to say "who cares?"
obviously not valve/gearbox, they have more pressing things to worry about than a few people converting a model or so (regardless of who paid for the add on)
so folk, if you respect valve/gearbox so much, go play tfc.
