On my x86 system the .tga image files of the various maps are at C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Natural Selection 2\ns2\maps\overviews . These don't include location names or hive/techpoint locations.
Your best bet would be to start a passworded server and then use "cheats 1" in the console (`) and after choosing a team jump into the comm chair or hive as commander and have a look around that way.
Starting a server is probably the easiest way to get to know them properly (other than playing them a lot) and you will still need to do some walking around to really know them.
