The tournament is now underway! I want to thank everyone for turning out for the first match and I hope to see a lot more people show up as we try to accomplish our goal of showing people just how great of a spectator sport Natural Selection 2 can be!
Now that the brackets have been officially revealed, here they are!

The YouTube videos will be cut later today so you will be able to find all of the matches here after they happen.
Also, one final note. Preparations are already in progress for NEXT season! We are looking at accepting 16 teams so start thinking about if you want in or not. Registration will open directly after the conclusion of this season, so be prepared.

QUOTE

Hello everyone!
A lot of you may not know who I am so please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Talutha, also known as The Sucky Gamer. I have been playing Natural Selection ever since its first inception and I am having a great time in NS2. As many of you know, Unknown Worlds has little to no budget for advertising and they are completely reliant on players such as you or me to get the word out. To that extent, I have been streaming a LOT of NS2 on my channel on Twitch and am starting up a series on YouTube in an effort to get the name of the game out there as well as teach new players to the game how many of the mechanics work.
Another effort I want to begin today is the creation of The Sucky Gamers NS2 Tournament. There are a few venues out there for competitive players to stretch their legs such as scrims or the ENSL and I am wanting to put for some of my effort into those areas as well. With this tournament, I not only invite some of the more organized teams to sign up, but I would also like to see some players who have been considering trying a tournament but have been a bit apprehensive about doing so. So grab yourself as well as five of your closest friends, or a few people off the street, and sign up!
Now this tournament may differ from previous tournaments that have taken place. This is not something that will happen during the course of a weekend or a week. The main goal is to promote awareness of this game as a spectator sport as well as attempt to bring new people into the community. As such, each game will be cast live as well as uploaded to YouTube. I will be doing the majority of the casting along with Praan, although we might have a few guests along the way!
Here are the basic guidelines of how things are going to be happening. This is the first tournament I have ever hosted so if things need to be adjusted, please let me know. This is completely casual so if things are "unfair" we will adjust them on the fly or make note of things for the next iteration of the tournament.

What maps will be randomed if one is not agreed on? Are you selecting from all official maps or just the ones generally used in competitive play (veil, tram, summit)?
About how long do you see this tournament running? You said teams would play whenever they could -- does that mean we'd conclude in a week or two?

These questions answered, next time on NS2Forums!

The Sucky Server is located in Dallas, Texas. As far as handling EU players, is the example you gave with allowing the EU players to play on a more local server during their marine round the norm in matchups? If it is we can definitely accommodate situations like that. Obviously the EU teams will have to provide a server of their own and as far as the randomized round to break ties will determine what server we play on.
Randomly selected maps will be selected from Veil, Tram and Summit.
As far as the length of the tournament, it will last as long as it takes to get all of the games cast and played. This is a very casual thing so we really aren't in any hurry to finish this as fast as possible.
If you wish to accommodate the euros then in a bo3, the marine rounds of the first two games are typically played on favorable ping. The third round varies from tournament to tournament. Some flip a coin with the winner being able to pick server AND faction while loser picks map. Others will have the winner pick server OR faction, loser picks the other option.
If you allow winner of the coin flip to pick server and faction then teams typically pick their favorable ping and marines. I tend to think having the map dictated and the coin flip to decide server OR faction is most fair in EU-NA matchups. It's ultimately up to you, though.
Thanks for casting our scrim the other night.
I should add that I'm not a huge fan of cross-continental play, but beggars can't be choosers.

That is correct! We're about half way there but slots are starting to go faster!
And I've had a few concerns from people about some higher skilled teams entering so what I might do is fudge the "random" seeding for the first brackets, or I might implement a losers bracket so if you do get knocked out by a pro team you still get a chance at possibly facing a more equally skilled opponent! Please let me know yalls thoughts on either option!

When we have 12 teams! =) Might reduce it to 10 depending on how fast the remaining teams fill in.
Oops! I apologize, I thought I had added you, it is done now! =)
