Joining a full server in spectator mode

Apologies if this is already in the game, but I couldn't find an option to join a full game from the server screen.

Would this be difficult to implement? I'm trying to support Natural Selection 2's awesome scene with recorded live commentaries, but I seem unable to join full servers with the intention of purely spectating.

Also, once actively spectating, do you take up a permanent slot in the server?

That is how it currently works and is also the reason why you cannot join a full server.

Something like this really should exist though. Much like GTV for quake or HLTV for NS1. It's perfect for people wanting to watch scrims.

I feel if the guys at Unknown want this to have a good competitive community they're going to need the spectator support. I play but I also love being able to jump into a server and lay down some commentaries. It's hard to get into the popular servers for obvious reasons, where the most spectator friendly games are likely to be played.

This would be a great feature. Sometimes I'll want to join public games and spectate but I always feel bad for taking up the slot, especially when my presence causes the teams to be unbalanced.
