Well, I'm using a pair of Valencias. Should be close enough.
FPS still suffers. I don't think any processor will solve it at the moment.
my 8150 @ 4.07 ghtz is doing great. Paired with a gtx460 i get 40 fps minimum @ 1600x1200, all settings off or on low except for texture streaming and multi-core rendering.
220x18.5 FSB, 2400 HT, 1499mhtz OC on kingston hyperx ram 8gb. GTX460 is left at stock clock though, i'm pretty sure these come close to overheating already.
If i didn't get a rev0 mobo by mistake, i could hit 4.8ghtz on stock heatsink and fan with my black edition 8150. The rev3 fixed the 200mv voltage drop under load on my GA-990FXA-UD7 rev0 mobo.
So in short yes, the 8350 will be very wonderful for NS2.
edit; forgot to mention, i actually get higher fps than i7 and i5's accross the board. If you want a rig specifically for NS2 then atm it seems AMD is your only choice. I beat i7's at 4.5ghtz with 660ti's/670's in them. It might be because of the difference in structure between intel and amd or it could be the SSE4 + 4.2 instruction sets.
I think it's the FSB personally, intel only do 110 per-core max where going from 200 to 220 i saw a big performance increase on my 'dozer.
but still i'm not so sure that it can beat a good i5/i7. They go up to 4.5 ghz quite easy too.
That's why i'm waiting to see a vishera cpu. starting from 4ghz is going to be fun.
Oh and may i ask you, how many cores does ns2 use on your bulldozer? if you run it in window mode with taskmanager on foreground you will easily check it. Thanks

Glad to see AMD is finally catching up the where Intel was a year ago. Also, would have preferred to see comparison of enthusiast-level CPUs (AMD 8350 v i7 3770k) rather than between enthusiast and mainstream CPUs (AMD 8350 v i5 3570k). Problem for AMD is that Haswell is coming out this summer.

How interesting I thought AMD was out of the game. I was going to upgrade my CPU @ Haswell but I am wondering what AMD's piledriver will do. I want both of them to be equal so that things can progress faster and prices go lower. Good competition is the only good thing for consumers.
Still I sort of wanna see the late game framerates as early frames are usually high. If anyone with the 8350 could post a benchmark following the guidelines here it would really help see the difference

A bit of an unequal comparison when you have your 8350@5.0GHz vs the 3570k@4.5Ghz.
I would take that video and its benchmarks with a huge grain of salt. Word on the grapevine is that the mobo they used for the Intel setup is one of the worst boards you can get for that kind of setup. This review also contrasts with many different reviews on the net. As much as I would love for the underdog AMD to take a huge swing at the overlord Intel we have to be realistic. Given the facts and implications of this review I find it very hard to believe that the reality that the review portrays is real.
There was a massive debate over this review over on <a href="http://www.overclock.net/t/1353440/teksyndicate-amd-fx-8350-oc-vs-i5-3570k-oc-using-an-evga-gtx-670" target="_blank">overclock.net</a> (my 2 cents can be found <a href="http://www.overclock.net/t/1353440/teksyndicate-amd-fx-8350-oc-vs-i5-3570k-oc-using-an-evga-gtx-670/60#post_19136321" target="_blank">here</a>.) With 31 pages of debate over this review it's safe to say that the results are certainly controversial.
Also, those tests were made with an AMD 7870... they should have definitely used something more powerful to avoid GPU bottlenecks (Metro 2033 is surely gpu bottlenecked in those tests).
