you can't just take a guide and be a commander, you have to learn thru experiance on how and when to attack, all a guide can give you are some basic tips and small commanding tricks, but not a full outline. Also 1/2 of commanding is actual leadership, and getting the marines to want to follow you, which is extremely hard, and cannot be taught by a guide of any sort.
like ive said in another thread- starcraft helps a lot <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Yes, good call flatline. Learning to micromanage....starcraft...C&C...Warcraft 3...many that will help. Learning how to control Marines in NS who all want HA and HMG's...take practice and lots of patiance....
Go to the frontiersman's forum...there are more then a few guides and tips about being a commander...you'll find some stuff to help you there
Voice Communication can make or break a commander. Last night we were playing a game and this guy was sucking arse at first as the commander but then the next game he switched to talking ALOT more and it was way easier to follow his commands. The problem with typing stuff out is that it's easy to miss it, especially if you're getting attacked at the moment. But if it's said you won't miss it (dosen't stop people from ignoring you.. but those people die fast).
Personally I can only command small groups because I don't have a microphone yet and run into the same problem (heh I actually bought one SPECIFICIALLY for NS but the stupid thing dosen't work so I need to return it)

At least not for me.
And I'm not really looking for tips so much as a manual listing everything available to a commander. For example, how can I select all my soldiers and give them a waypoint? So far I only know how to select individual soldiers by clicking on them.
The current NS manual is... lacking, to say the least, in a lot of areas - the basics of commanding being one of them. Many of the posts that have tips also include some basic information.
