Hello everybody,
I just installed ns yesterday, so I'm a totally helpless n00b <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I installed the ns server zip file into my HalfLife folder, than unzipped the files which
contain the upgrades, overwriting any existing files. So I would expect my ns server
to be version 1.2. When starting HL and activating ns however, HL says ns is version 1.0.
Have I made some mistake or is this supposed to be ok?

HL should be 1.1.1.0
NS should be 1.02
when a map begins/changes you should see in the console text something about it being 1.02 NS
starting HalfLife, go to the menu option where you can select which installed
mod to activate, and there in this list, ns appears and the version listed there
for ns is 1.0. I select ns as mod, click "Activate", click "Play on LAN", check the
box "dedicated server" and click "Create". The server starts ok, but how can I
make sure that the server is running version 1.2 ? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
Ooops. Sorry. Read first, reply later <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> I'll check the console text ...
make a shortcut to hlds.exe and then edit the properties to add to the command line
let's say your hlserver is installed on c:\ your command line for a dedicated server could look like this
c:\hlserver\hlds.exe -game ns +map ns_eclipse +maxplayers 16
-game ns = game type, natural selection
+map ns_eclipse = the map you want to kick the server off with. I usually choose the last map in the mapcycle.txt so that when it cycles it goes to the first of the list and cycles on down
+maxplayers = the maximum amount of players you allow to join the server at any given time
forgive me If I've oversimplified things but I can't tell how much you know about running dedicated servers
good luck !
No big deal. Just change your server name to reflect the version.
