Their critic points where:
-Boring textures
-Not so great animations
-Lategame upgrades almost too strong
-Sterile maps
-Aliens hard to control in the beginning
-Only six maps that are all pretty similar
-Level design is initially confusing without looking at the map
-Extreme high dependency on commander
-Not much versatility in the weapon and lifeform arsenal
-Only one game mode thus far
And yes, some of those are just ridiculous, especially complaining about the map layout while they usually complain about the A-to-B tunnel layout of maps in other games.
All in all a good review that can bring you more german players. I'm happy with it.
<i>GameStar</i> is also not the biggest. Their circulation has dropped below 100k (like many print media in general) recently, though they are still the second biggest. The biggest remains <i>Computer Bild Spiele</i>, which is released by the Springer press and aimed more at a "casual" audience (the <i>Bild</i> released by Springer is the German equivalent to the British <i>The Sun</i>).

The change is in % compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
GameStar has 10k and PCGames has 15k of those magazine as boarding pieces, which are free magazines handed out to airlines.
Their quality has also decreased quite a bit in the past, unfortunately. Many good writers left and they kept focusing more on online than on print.
GamersGlobal.de is a review I am waiting for, since it's where many of their good writers went.
