To clarify, he is NOT talking about the ammo gauge. He's talking about the count of "extra" canisters of fuel.

Um.... yeah. I'd like to know this too. I usually refill before I'm out of canisters, but the lack of an apparent fuel tank count is annoying. I may be missing something though.

Or, instead of breaking the game balance horribly, just change the display so it shows the amount of canisters left. Although, it doesn't appear to work on a canister basis, but rather a variable amount (like the bullet count, it doesn't work on clips but the actual bullets left).
So it would have to be another bar graph, or % sign showing how full the whole weapon was, instead of just the current canister. I think a % count at the bottom of the display (in a darker blue, or something) would work out best.
So it seems I am not the only one to notice the lack of an "ammo" indicator.
I wonder if this hud element was simply forgotten about? I wouldn't be surprised, the flamethrower hardly seems to be used by the competitive players or even in pub games, so I suppose none of the regular forum goers bothered to post about this problem up until now.
I am 100% sure the flamethrower gas quantity indicator had a horizontal bar showing the total remaining gas accumulated in total of all canisters, but it was either removed or broken ~1-2 months back.

erm... are you referring to the 'infinite mags' idea suggested for flamethrower as being gamebreakingly op?
as if every good marine player ends up with flamethrower and thinks 'damn if only i had an extra clip then i could do everything!'.
it would be broken for consistency sake, pretty much everything else carries the equivalent of 4 extra mags. but since the commander can refuel you on-the-fly i don't think infinite clips is at the forefront of gamebreaking ideas.

While it wouldn't be game breaking, it would not be balanced. Having a limited amount of ammunition forces players to go back for refilling. It also makes players feel a bit vulnerable (a good thing!). It makes you rely on other players and your commander too. Its like saying giving infinite ammo to pistol wouldn't be game breaking. Indeed. But its still poor balance.

yes that is that , thanks for clarify ^^
We could call it "Nanite Rejuicing" where the empty canisters are refilled automatically between swaps
I don't think we'll ever see direct weapon upgrades but that would be a very interesting one
Obviously LMG would get the lade launcher back

Yes they do.
