Any Tutorials or Guides To Mapping

<div class="IPBDescription">Absolute Noob At Mapping</div>I was wondering if there are any good sources for COMPLETELY noob mappers who want to get started. I have some map ideas, but I have no idea where to start and etc. I'd prefer if the guide were to go from beginning to end of a simple map process. Also, how long does it generally take to completely a decent map that can be used for competitive play?
