Or in some cases adds a bit more cover in alien starting areas. That way we could have our completely random starts, but I'd rather see this as a setting on a server (default spawns, completely random). However, a starting area is not entirely dependent on those two factors either. The way it is connected to the map also has huge consequences for either team. Ah well, it would still be an interesting feature to play around with if it even got implemented :P<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Yeah that could be pretty cool. However I'm pretty sure that such a feature would not be enough to make the same locations viable for both teams. The vents was just one example of the asymmetrical needs of spawning locations for balanced maps. Alien spawns needs great ambush spots, and in general be alien friendly, while marine spawns needs to have not be too alien friendly, or have places for aliens to hide. As an example; on summit in data core and flight control aliens can hide on top and easily distract marines in their spawns for longer periods of time.
My own conclusion is that totally random spawns would never work, and having both teams spawn at the same locations is a flaw in the balance of the game. Surely varity is good, but maps need to be designed for random spawns, however that is not the case for summit or tram for that matter. Random spawns were just forced upon the maps even though they were designed for static spawns, that causes these problems that are pretty obvious for people that got a decent understanding of the game.

IMHO Summit would work better with random cross spawns and completely eliminating the close spawns as well. I mean both flight and data have better connectivity to the center of the map. which is negated up to a point versus marines with those ambush hallways outside both data and flight as you said.
