Multi-user web not working

I have spent couple of hours trying to get this ********* authentication to work but no... it just keeps giving me the same login popup.
I have NO idea what the problem is since there are no errors but where to start... firstly, there's no damn <a href="http://www.askapache.com/online-tools/htpasswd-generator/" target="_blank">http://www.askapache.com/online-tools/htpasswd-generator/</a> so I used the htpasswd command on my server ( oh yeah, it's on linux ) to create a .htpasswd file, and added the realm to it manually (:webdomain). I tried at least two different encryptions for the password and placed the .htpasswd file to multiple different locations but nothing works. I also tried having the path with and without "" and everything else I coudl think of. -webuser and -webpassword method works so it's not the whole web that is broken.
