I'll do a HLTV image when i get a bit more detail in the map. I hope this gives an idea of the layout.

    I'm probably not the best guy to give you advice on the layout, but I see a few issues.

    - The CC room only has one exit. I think this is a no-no.

    - You've got great connections up top with alien only passageways, but it could probably use a bit more throught the upper areas of the map.

    - It still seems to be a bit too closely connected with marine passages up near the hives... Maybe something like this would work out better:

    I think i need to clear up the top central corridor thing, people seem to misunderstand it.

    its not a hive link. If you do not have a jetpack or able to climb walls its useless to you. One end has a ramp (far left) and the other end is a dead end without jetpack or claws. The middle section is not accessable either, so its hard to use it to manouver between hives.

    Oh, I see what you mean. Makes sense to me now.

    Oh ya, the routes you added make it a lot easier for marines to back track and regroup, according to Flayra the marines must comit to one route and have to was at least two third the distance back to the spawn to join another route.

    I was under the impression it was half way back... at least that's what he told me.

    But yeah... That really isn't the best way to do it how I drew it out there. I just wanted to get the idea across.

    That layout is actually quite similar to the one I drew out a while back. My connections between the three main routes to the hives were almost back at the marine start. Flayra hada look at it, and suggested I move them to about half way up.

    still, those new paths would allow movement a LOT faster

    I know.. I was just trying to point something out and thought drawing it out would make better sense then if I tried to explain it in my usual nonsense fashion. And you can see how much of a better option that looked as opposed to how close they appear to be connected there. Just trying to help... heh.

    What I suggested would allow movement a lot faster then what you actually have, yes... I just misunderstood your layout. I certainly don't think it would be a good idea to connect them there now... It just seemed better to me at the time, as I was thinking they connected at the central thingy. That's all.

    Yup.

    BTW, great job with the map so far, n@rbs. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    I like your departure from the overt symmetry of some of your previous early layouts.  One thing I noticed in that second pic is that room in the bottom corner that isn't connected to anything.  If that's your readyroom, I think you should know that the commander should not be able to see it.  If you just included that for scale or something, then whatever.  I'm also hoping that those "out of the way" rooms (below the marine start, up the middle a little to the right) have something important, like resources.  It's always a good thing to let people know where your resources are.

    Thanks for the feedback Ken, i appreciate it <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    The ready room will be out of view, i'll move it up later on, it was just tempory while i compiled the map

    I wish I had a bit more time to comment on this, but basically, don't follow my 2/3s or 1/2 guidelines if your instincts tell you it's wrong.  You've designed many more maps then I have, and they are in constant rotation in a competitive and fair context.  Yes, I know more about what we're trying to achieve with NS, but trust your instincts.

    I'd say the first layout with the general connectivity between the hives and the no connectivity between routes at the midpoint feels wrong to me.  I think the marines should have to fall back to move between hives, and that there should be some general connectivity between each route, just nothing too easy.
