The game lose all the strategic elememnts with more than 20 players, 18 ist the the absolute max ammount of players to keep this element alive. Above that you have an DM-style game. Maybe there some out there who like this, im sure most of us didnt.
There 24 slots servers also, cause admins want there servers on top of the serverbrowser as most people sort by playercount.
Dont know what makes me more sad: - That admins didnt know there machines cant handle this ammount of players (maybe they didnt care about, dont know) - Players that play on 5 tick servers for hours

First, 32 man servers at this time will not present an enjoyable experience. We do a lot of testing before we go live with servers and, even though we could, we decided not to launch 32 man servers due to late game issues. True, with 4.65 Ghz we can probably maintain a 20+ tick rate, but that's the point? Is rather run 24 man servers at 30 ticks 99% of the time.
Second, I don't agree with people saying small gangs this, small gangs that... most of our players enjoy larger servers and so do I. I do really miss the 16v16 from ns1 and hopefully one day we will get there. There's nothing I enjoy more than those games where an entire team if marines beacons and rushes a hive while aliens all get together to destroy them. Remember when we played on the g4b2s servers? Multiple marine-alien encounters at different points on the map? Marines holding out for 45 minutes at a time while one marine sneaking in the alien base and getting a ninja phase gate, completely turns the outcome of the game? Or those fearless gorge rushes? Or shotgun rushes? I'm getting off subject here, but does anyone remember the good old nukes? Ahh good old times!<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Why all the bashing? If you don't like 32 man servers, don't play on them (if they will be playable in the future that is)

Because newcomers will by instinct join the server with the biggest number. They might play for a few hours and then form an opinion on this here death-match game they are playing, completely missing all of the subtle strategic elements the game is based around. If you want zerg v zerg clusterf**k play combat. Having these battlefield size servers displaying as 'normal' is incredibly misleading and detrimental for people learning the ns experience. Personally I can think of 101 better games out there designed for instant action, leave your brain at the door style of play.

On the contrary, more players there are more important strategy is, and less important invidual player skill is. In 6v6 one good player can decide the whole match outcome alone just because his epic aim and epic fading. When player count goes up his role to the outcome of the game gets smaller, and its more about bigger things like strategy.
Come on ppl stop whining about 24p servers even tho u are mad because ppl rather play on them and ur 6v6 servers are empty. If u don't like big servers just don't play on them and let the majority of the players enjoy the game how they like it.

Not my experience... From the times I've played on larger servers, I find you just encourage people to a) not communicate b) rambo and c) never, ever follow orders. Let alone how ridiculously difficult it is to micro as marine comm on 12v12... add another 4 marines to cajole into doing what you need? No thanks!
I've played a fair bit on larger servers, I find they are bad for teamwork, bad for gameplay, bad for communication, bad for performance and ultimately a bad advertisement for NS2.
Just my opinion, obviously we all have our own opinions, though.

I don't know Roobubba, the games i usually command players do really follow orders. Out of 11 people i get enough of them to listen to what i'm saying and take action. Large games are fun, and most of the time even last longer. The average game i play is about 30+ minutes (i know because map vote starts after just one round most of the time, and we have it set at 30 minutes). On longer games players tend to get into it a lot more, and even though one of the teams is losing, they don't leave the game, because there is still a chance they might win. I don't know what players are on the servers you play on, but most of the time (9/10) there is PLENTY of communication and teamwork. Nothing makes me happier than 3 onoses backed up by 3-4 gorges tearing apart 4 exos. And what's wrong with a rambo here and there? It's all part of the fun. If you respect the players they will respect you back. (But again, i am an admin, and if they are rude, disrespectful and purposely try to ruin the game, a simple hour ban will get them quiet :P - and you'd be surprised, in the 2 months our community has been up and running, i only had to do that 3-4 times.)
One thing i do agree with is performance. There are quite a lot of servers out there that attempt to host large games and fail horribly. Those admins should be spanked :D.

Siege servers are (most of the time) labeled. If they are too lazy to read the server name with the |SIEGE| tag in it, that's their problem.
