A bug causing huge lag

So, this happens to me sometimes. Very strange bug.
All of a sudden display on your LMG is black and the game starts to lag hugely. I don't have decent fps in any time, but when this happens, it drops to like 5-10 even in early game. Magically, if you switch yo your axe, everything is fine.

My previous solution was to rejoin the server, this would fix it. Today that this happened again I decided to report this bug and suddenly found another soluition: just as I pressed F12 to take a screenshot, everything went back to normal.

One weird bug. I was not able to detect anything that could cause it: was first 2 minutes into the game, didn't do anything special, just built some stuff at nano and killed some skulks and WHAM - black lmg display.

if you are able to reproduce this, please type "record anynameyouwant" and then exit the game after its done.
You will find the demo in your hidden %appdata%/Natural selection 2 folder, by whatever name you called it. Compress/zip it and upload it somewhere then link it here.

If you cant do that, any reproduction steps would be very helpful
Also, any errors in your console? (~ key)
What are your specs? Video drivers? Are you using "Texture streaming" in the gfx options?

p.s. be sure to take a screenshot of this again with r_stats 1 entered in the console so we can see what your Video memory usage is.

In the NS2 graphics options, have you set Texture Streaming to ON? What is your Texture Quality setting?

Try this solution: Set Texture Streaming to OFF, and Texture Quality to Medium/Low.

What HDD/SSD, graphics card and it's VRAM amount, primary RAM amount and Operating System do you have?

I have noticed that when I first spawn, and each of the environment assets is still loading, my rifle will always start with the black ammo indicator. For me, it always resolves itself within a few moments as the assets finish loading, and the problem does not recur until the next map comes up and the assets have to re-load (precaching be damned). I wonder if for some reason your ammo counter and other environmental elements are being un-loaded halfway through playing, which is also causing them to load on demand and resulting in the huge FPS drops.

Farren, thats related to texture streaming. I bet you $20 you have it enabled :)

But if its doing this mid game, i.e. past 10 minutes. thats an issue.

    Same problem here: <a href="http://www.twitch.tv/fieldsofblue/c/1870492" target="_blank">http://www.twitch.tv/fieldsofblue/c/1870492</a>

I actually get entire lock ups, but my fps seems to be okay when it's actually working. I'll try to get a record/screencap.

EDIT: [s]It only happens after I've played 3-4 rounds or after a period of about 1 hour.[/s] Not true, I now know that it can happen at any time, even during a round.

My ping is displayed as 999 on the scoreboard when this happens.

The "record anyname" didn't work; I got an error message that it cannot be done in-game and I needed to disconnect first. Upon disconnecting from the server, the game locks up entirely and I need to actually ctrl + alt + del to exit.

    EDIT 2: Texture streaming off.

EDIT 3: 50$ microATX biostar mainboard
    intel i7 2600 (Not the K series)
    8gb ram
    Radeon HD 5770 gpu

EDIT 4: Happened mid-round last night, somewhere around the 20 minute mark. More screens.

    Ok, here's what I got:
    \<img src="http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/6418/2013012800001.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

I literally just launched the game and got it on first few seconds in the match.

As in the last time, pressing F12 (screenshot) solved the issue and I could not get any more info.

I have 2gb vram and 8gb ram, texture streaming is off (I didn't notice any difference when I was using it so decided to go without it). Textures set to high, as I believed I have enough ram for that, everything else is off. Turns out, 2gb is not enough? I still believe it is enough, and it's just some sort of bug.

Several changes are being made for upcoming builds that will significantly reduce memory usage and may solve this issue for you.

Thanks, Strayan. I'll keep my eyes open in patch notes.
