yay ns2 relevant news :) yay more maps! :)
Although to me its not the number of maps that count, i'd rather have a handful of maps that are very different to each other in gameplay style and different strategy. They are all slowly getting their own identities now which is great, but if can have a whinge it's that all of the maps are trying to do everything at once, and I think it would be more fun if each map had its unique style of gameplay instead of all being the do it all perfect map.
sounds like descent will be know for its varied elevation - so we also need some claustraphobic maps, some that have a slightly different objective like holding the middle(yeah this sorta happens on veil i guess).

Or just continue to buy NS2 for friends who have no interest, like I do for mine! lol. I just hope they give it a go sometime.

Aww shicks.
As a map tester I'll say that I love descent it brings up the freshness in the current map contexts with that space enviroment. It might open up some artsets to re-do the Hera :)
Also there is one so awesome thing on the map I bet someone will somehow somewhere and sometime make a minigame out of it :)

I bet a lot of people who are sitting on custom maps will make use of the new models to spruce them up. :D<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Yup I really hope they have a bunch of fun assets. I'm kinda hoping one day someone makes a system shock 2 similar map since we have the entire space station map theme next month. I wonder if it'll be early Feb though.
<i><b>"If a smaller than usual number of people respond to a post about performance improvements, we know you guys aren't interested in us improving performance.
as you wont need 100stable fps quite low i guess..
but i remember a changelogentry, that the editor now uses the game engine, so, if you dont screw up your map entity wise, you should end up with the same performance like ingame.
in the beginning way better and till performance improvements at your map are done worse and worse :)

it would be pretty sweet if you guys worked with the custom mappers to do something like a "custom map day" every week, I'm not sure how much admin work that would entail but I think it would be a great way to break things up and tide people over until new content rolls in. It would also give those mappers balance feedback so that they could keep the maps strategically viable.
<b>Wheeee</b>: We already have something similar thanks to Howser; we test maps and give feedback every sundays but it's not officially supported by UWE. Here is the thread in question in case you're interested: <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=126987" target="_blank">http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index....howtopic=126987</a> So far we had two sessions and we played maps such as Eclipse, Goliath, Drydosity, Core and more.
On topic: I'm eagerly awaiting Descent and the content patch. You guys rule.

initially opening an official map takes a little bit of time to load (about the same as in game i guess) and once it loads you can hide all of the parts of the map that you don't want to edit (using layers). So it will perform very smoothly if you are just editing one area at a time.
starting a new map you would only need a very basic PC until your map gets really big.
there is also talk of a 2nd community map project (see my sig)

Thats it...you've given us a month now....next piece we need to confirm is year ;)
So worst case its about 4-5 weeks out.
Looking forward to some new maps and any other goodies like web or similar......now if you will confirm what else besides new maps we can all start nitpicking before you guys release things :D
