Colour coded floors with signs saying aliens stand here to evolve, marines not allowed in this are etc?
What you are proposing would only make the game less interesting and more dumbed down. I'm opposed to any kind of dumbing down of the game.
At least you are in the minority on this one.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Colour coded floors? God no. But I don't think it should be difficult to have vents marked by a map designer and simply prevent people from evolving inside them. There, done. Is it "dumbing down"? I don't think so.
People seem to think that clear rules equal a boring and simple game. Yeah, tell that to all the chess players. :P Or, hell, Go players. I believe rules should be clear and transparent, and if they're well designed they will offer the depth needed to make games interesting.
Also, I may be a minority, but, not wishing to be fatalist here, it's this type of attitude that I think will scare off potential new players. Especially since what people also seemed to miss is that I am, on the whole, fine with marines in vents. There are places where you can enter a vent with no fuss (and jetpacks, once researched, make ALL vents accessible). This is absolutely fine. What pissed me off is that in certain places it smells of exploitation - either of the physics engine (if we're talking about that particular jump on Veil) or the dimensions of vents (if we're talking about Kharaa evolving in vents). It doesn't seem intended, and if it is, it's an obscure mechanic (in which case I can only repeat my second paragraph).

here's an idea - MAKE ALL OF THE VENTS PITCH BLACK - aliens have special vision, they don't need the light. if a marine goes into the vent aliens will have a big advantage, not to mention if a marine is using a flashlight in there it will give him away.
done.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I could get behind that. At least the flashlight will be a tell.
