This one is also pretty cool, kind of looks like a monkey getting digitized. It's missing something, but it would be great for social-space branding (twitter avatar, etc). I'd love to see this one in the finalists to see if they can improve it.
I was told that it was possibly just deleted? If so, that's pretty outrageous to offer a cash prize and then just be like "lol nope" after people spend hours working on banners. Many of them were quite good.
Can someone in charge comment on the winner of this or clarify what happened?
On another note it seems that 99 designs takes a huge commission fee and the prize money is actually $470. According to people who entered a design and saw their potential reward.
We are leaning more and more towards a design that uses a motif referencing the concept of a 'spark' in a non obvious way. For example, a very subtle spark plug reference.
I really liked the spark plug and broken light bulb logos at first, they are kinda smart and non obvious, but they also dont really fit too well to unkown worlds - you get this scifi space feeling and then next to it you want to put a spark plug from a car or a light bulb? meh...
I would rather see a more obvious spark or those star like thingies a lot of ppl made than that. (if nobody came up with something better)
100% Money-back guarantee? For real?!
We offer a 100% money-back guarantee within 60 days of payment on all contests except:
1. those with a guaranteed prize
2. those that have entered the Final round, since once you enter the Final round, your contest automatically becomes guaranteed.
Not happy with the designs? No worries!
We’re more than happy to help you re-write your brief, re-open your project to ensure you get a good result, and help you pick a winning design. Give us a call — we’re here to help!
What happens to the designs?
Remember, if you ask for a refund on your contest, you aren’t legally entitled to use any of the designs submitted to your contest.
Guaranteed contests
If you’ve decided to offer a guaranteed prize, you’re guaranteeing to the design community that you will choose a winner, so your contest will not be eligible for a refund.
This was pulled from the 99 designs website.
So judging by the fact that you cannot view any of the designs anymore, UWE likely asked to be refunded. But whoooo knows, maybe they will clarify as to what happened.
It says a winner was chosen (hover over 4 under the title). I guess they'll reveal when Gorgeous hits.
Nah man that just describes the phase the contest would have been in. Mouse over the number 2 and see that no finalist were chosen to continue the contest.
Besides the contest is held which is only done when the holder does not choose any finalists and could possibly mean the holder asked for a refund.
Do it!
I wish I had the skills in Illustrator to attempt this one. I imagine you could blow up the icon a bit and write SPARK across the horizontal line. Done up right, it could look very good and would be nice reference to NS1.
I think the image itself would require a great deal of reinterpretation, and more imagination than I am capable of. I'm more than willing to accept half the prize if anyone uses this concept though.
This is an amazing idea. Make a high-res adaption of the old-school ns1 weld icon. gawd, nerdgasm

This one looks like a TSF Marines logo, a spark...but also like a shining star, or sun.

Was the contest just deleted after offering $800 for a logo?

No. Some contests have a guaranteed prize and some don't, this one didn't.

odd how no one from the UWE team has let us know via these forums as to what happened.
