Launch the game through Steam, get a blackscreen followed by a Debug Report after about 2 seconds. The only thing that's in the log.txt file is the following:
Date: 02/08/13
Time: 23:55:42
Build 239
Steam initialized
Render Device: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti (9.18.13.1396)

I've tried almost everything, verifying data(several times in between), restarting steam, re-installeing steam, restarting the computer, deleting cache in %appdata%, re-installing graphics drivers, verifying sound, re-installing DirectX, default settings in NVIDIA CP, launching it in windowed mode and launching it from the folder as an admin.

It use to work just fine earlier today, no clue why it's acting up now. I should probably include that I installed Win8 on Tuesday but there haven't been any problems until now. Even Mendasp couldn't figure it out so I guess it's just RIP ns2 kthxbai.

Any suggestions or will I have to try re-download/install?

halph plehs.

    Need that debug report.
Also have you tried older video drivers?
And have you tried compatibility mode when launching the game?

The quote IS the debug report.
Tried 3 different video drivers, haven't tried compatibility yet.

So no dump file is being created when you crash? No "app hang info" text?

Odd that you were fine, previously..

    Dude, I'm so confused.

I tried to get it to launch, but I gave up and proceeded to go watch a movie(1 hour 10 minutes). Then I came back and tried launching it for the fuck of it, and it starts. Like, I'm starting to question life..

Welcome to life. At least you are able to play now, for the moment at least. If this issue reproduces itself, please remember to try to grab the dump file as it will help us greatly to be able to try to pinpoint the issue at hand.

I'm assuming there were multiple restarts between all of what you tried, so it wouldn't be an overheating issue. You didn't disable your pagefile did you? Did you install Windows 8 from scratch or on top of a 7 install? Is Steam (and NS2 itself) located in the Program Files folder or somewhere else? Not that the location should matter since programs are free to write to the folder if needed...

I originally had 2 drives, one for windows7/programs and the other one for games. I now got 3 disks, the third one having only windows8, so it's all seperated. My specs are well over the recommended, so I doubt that's got something to do with it.

It was happening rarely before I installed win8, it's just happening a lot more lately. Nothing's happened yet, otherwise I'll try to grab the dump file if it continues.

    Thanks guys.

    Problem has been found.

Having "Overlay" activated in Mumble makes the game crash continuously, fixed by disabling. Such a simple procedure, I just feel dumb after all the things I tried ._.
