Love them. Everyone has a unique image so I can easily associate an image with a name, which is far easier than remembering just a name from thread to thread or even post to post. I also particularly like my own avatar, both in that I didn't have to create one myself and that it is strangely appropriate (grumpy pirate).

Actually I think I might borrow my avatar from here to reuse elsewhere.
