This is more a wild passing thought than anything particularly well thought out:
Add a second tier of upgrade chambers that only become available once certain first tier chambers have been unlocked.
For example, a Crag hive would unlock the Gregory chamber as an option for future hives (only while the Crag hive was still up).
To take that a step further, add third tier chambers that only become available when you have two first tier chamber hives up or one second tier chamber hive up.
Second tier after Crag:
The Gregory chamber hive improves cara and regen and allows the comm to upgrade mature Crags to have a faster heal or a wider AoE.
Second tier after Shift:
The Shuffle chamber hive improves cele & adren and allows the comm to upgrade mature Shifts to continuously spawn eggs.
Third tier after Gregory:
The Robert chamber hive further improves cara & regenand allows the comm to upgrade mature Crags to constantly emit nutrient mist.
Tis a silly thought. But if implemented properly it would definitely make the mid-game & late-game pretty interesting.

Isn't that already the case, to a lesser extent? There is no adrenaline or regen in competitive play. Camo is rare. Cara first, silence or celerity second, for everyone.
