rather than creating a new alien, i'd like to see the current aliens separated further. currently they are all melee units that get an upgrade to go forward faster and have varying amounts of health.

sure they are currently visually very different, but ability wise they are all essentially made to go forwards really fast. skulk leap, lerk flight, fade blink, onos charge - they are all more or less the same ability in my eyes.

The gorge is the only one the that seems truly unique.

but to be more on topic there are some ideas:

Living infestation - player controls a shapeless mass of oozing infestation - it is completely bullet proof, can be disrupted by explosives, and evaporated by the flamethrower. It is a slowly moving horror that at first seems unstoppable. Easy to run away from, but persistent in its pursuit. perhaps gaining health from each enemy and structure it desolves (basically something like the blob from the movie "the blob")

Or the same sort of idea in a different form:
Babbler swarm or insect swarm -

For both of these you would control their direction of movement of course, but rather than attacking traditionally, your physical presence is the actually attack, and you could change your shape with the mouse buttons and even mouse wheel to stretch yourself more effectively to either cover a large area to damage more enemies at once, or to make your self narrow to avoid being fired on and to fit into small gapes in the walls as well as traveling through vents.
