Will there be one?
Be it free weekend be it some % off deal either would be good, as im trying to advocate it to some friends but their being stingy about the price and one even said, ill just wait till some free weekend like on chivalry
I believe i saw on facebook someone was working on a release video promo:
"Filming some combat on Descent today for the Gorgeous Trailer. We often turn the HUD off ("r_gui false" in console) to make the shots cleaner / more trailer like. Of course, this means not having a crosshair. So, Blue-Tac sniping time! (Or, in this case, sticky label sniping!)"
"Cory was in the office at a silly hour this morning, starting the week working on the epic Gorgeous trailer and checking in with his wonderful band of off-site artists! Industrial sized coffee close to hand."

For UWE, a 'content patch' is basically a normal bug/balance fix patch with a significant amount of new content. UWE has and will likely always provide these for free.
The problem I see with a free weekend right after a big content patch is that in the beta, big new features always came with bugs and balance issues. These problems usually take around 3-5 days for UWE to issue a hotfix patch to patch up the previous patches bugs. Best to have a free weekend a patch or two after the big content release to iron out all the problems the big content patch will inevitably cause.
A free weekend does need to come soon however. I am starting to see fewer and fewer rookies and I have been watching the player count go lower and lower each weekend. around 2,000 players at peak time vs 7,000 at release.

The drop in player count is inevitable, the game simply will not run as well as it should on most machines. It's frustrating to not be able to maintain a constant 60fps even when you turn the graphics all the way down (it's gotten much, much better since beta though and hopefully will continue to do so). When I've seen people compare graphs of this game's player count to other games it appears that the loss in players is a pretty common trend, and NS2 wasn't losing an disproportional amount of people. The problem is retaining the players, and when it comes to staying power all the little things like not-quite-good enough performance and overpopulated servers (Game was designed around 12-16 people per server, the busiest servers are all 20+) will start to add up.
Ns2 is a great game and I don't see myself playing any less of it in the future, but I can completely understand why people leave. With so many other good games out there, NS2 has to be exceptional in order to stand out amongst the crowd. When it was released it got a lot of attention because of the novelty that comes with a game like this, and I expect the Gorgeous update will attract new people for similar reasons. But novelty doesn't keep people around, and public NS2 games can be a highly frustrating experience.

The "content patch" is not really DLC. Its really more like the next build and is totally free.
