I know that you can mute people using the ingame voicechat, but unfortunately that doesn't apply to ingame text chat. It kind of defeats the purpose of muting somebody, if they can just spam vile garbage towards you in teamchat...
Your best bet is simply not reading it AFAIK. I've never seen a game where you could 'mute' the text chat.
Assuming you mean 'never seen in a FPS game', in TF2 if you mute someone it also blocks all text.
There are plenty of other genres where blocking text chat is standard (MMOs, for one).

I don't think that the forums condone call-outs, else I would call them out...
man I been asking for this feature since NS1 days, it just never happened. World of Warcraft has this, when you put someone on ignore, it blocks all incoming messages.
