The best thing that could happen would be for a solid tutorial on SETTING UP TO PLAY the game, make sure you know how to team-speak or all-chat or use the mic and what E/G does as Marine or B does for Alien. A quick rundown on the marine weapons and units and a rundown on the Alien lifeforms.
If that was recommended at the start of the update it would go a long way to easing new players into the game. I still remember the steam sale, and having people asking multiple times how they get exos, how the get jet packs or shotguns or upgrade to a higher lifeform or evolve new abilities etc etc.
Or the 1st time I installed, coming from RTS background so I wanted to comm Marine, thinking it would be like Terran from Starcraft---The intro to the Marine Commander tutorial was something along the lines of 'Well this wasn't meant to be the marine commander guide but something happened so here we go'. Even having a screen with a flow diagram to let people know would be helpful.
Although I know some people don't even look at the key binds before they jump into game sometimes. After being asked 'How do I build' or 'How do I evolve' or 'How do I teamspeak' a fair few times. The onos isn't only on the developers but also the user. The community is the biggest thing though.
Really looking forward to this. This game is so goddamn awesome. I don't even care about the balance issues or bugs or anything like that. IMO the community is the only thing holding it back and if people put their egos aside the bugs and balance will sort out eventually.
neway, i never really thought there was an issue with the green players and the non-green... until the other night - a "rookie" joined and immediately asked us all if we were going to kick or ban him for being new like what had been done to him on other servers... pretty lame.
I remember when NS2 was released, and the servers were packed full. It was almost a pain to find a game with open slots and desirable ping. Population died down shortly after that.
Excited to see the bump in activity again for Gorgeous, and will definitely be taking OP's state of mind into the games. Would love to see the concurrency of players stay up.
why should we act out of character for new people for a week, giving people false impressions of our terrible selves isn't a good idea, well leave them heartbroken when the polish of the new patch wears off and we all go back to being snooty jerks.
For some of us, being helpful and friendly, even at a higher skill level, is not acting out of character.
